Ya girl is EN ROUTE to the Ross Sea!
I am not above saying that today is my birthday, if that sweetens the pot ππ₯³
Wow, thank you for reposting!! πππ
Iβm going to Antarctica in less than a month (π±)!! Iβve been privileged to earn a scholarship to travel to the Ross Sea and make a dream come true. However, Iβm crowdfunding to help with the flight and gear costsβare you able to chip in or share? www.gofundme.com/f/emma-get-t...

For those of you in the UK, especially if you are a UK citizen, can you please take part in the consultation on changes to Indefinite Leave to Remain (Settlement) that were just proposed by the UK government. We need as many people as possible to reject these proposals. www.gov.uk/government/c...
There was something of a strange and special joy in opening our Midsummer Nightβs Dream production yesterday, on the first day we saw snow this season!
4) Grotto. What it sounds like to Americans: a cold, wet, slimy sea cave. What it means to Brits: the place where you meet Santa π
For anyone wondering what it is I do!
π£ Come and work with us!

Oh absolutely!! Good one
A classic
Working on a list here, if anyone has more!
3) Devolved. In the UK devolution/devolved powers means to the governments of individual countries within the UK, like the devolved government of Scotland for example. To an American, sounds like youβre insulting oneβs intelligence or talking about cavemen.
2) Warden. This one might be specific to certain unis, but basically means an RA (Resident Assistant). Sounds like a jailer to Americans.
List of words that are actually fairly neutral in Britain but sound alarming to Americans:
1) Manifesto. Means a platform (like a political platform or plan for something) in the UK but sounds like the crazed writings of a serial killer to Americans.
Very happy to announce the latest In Vivo article in Endeavour from @spacesword.bsky.social! Now available to read open access #polarhistory www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...
When Star Trek first aired in 1966, it posited a universe bursting with planetary possibilitiesβa bold move at a time before anyone knew of a single planet beyond our Solar System.

(To be clear, the fear was that I should never go to sea because anything would make me sick. Iβm sure Iβd feel rotten in a big sea but Iβve proved to myself I can function fairly normally in 2-3m waves which is a huge victory!)
Conquered a big personal fear (seasickness) taking the ferry to and from Spain over the weekend and spending three days and nights at seaβand I was completely fine!

A Guardian piece by a fellow Emma that reads almost scarily targeted at me π
Not really an overstatement to say that the test of a free society is whether or not comedians can make fun of the country's leader on TV without repurcussions.
Re: Frankenstein directors: Lauren Shippen & Emma Johanna Puranen
We're so excited to have @laurenshippen.com and @spacesword.bsky.social directing Re: Frankenstein!
