Due to the two-hundred-year War between the elemental Stratu, there are not so many bionicles left from the former number. The Matoran suffered especially in the bowels of Mata Nui, because they were not so strong and agile compared to the increased numbers of Toa, ferocious Tamaiti and monstrous Lords. Therefore, in the early years of peace on the island's surface, the Great Ones indicated that a new Matoran would stand behind every living soul to make up for the former greatness of their civilization.
