I'm not sure about Avi Loeb's latest take on space archaeology.
"Space archaeology informs us, of course, that no space launch capabilities were available to the dinosaurs or the ancient Romans."

An abstract painting of a spaceship approaching an ancient alien artifact in deep space
Another of my livestream favorites, Exploring an Alien Artifact. Painted with casein on illustration board, the artifact was inspired by the Berzerker stories by Fred Saberhagen.
The explorers in this scene have no idea what they are about to discover
Apparently Dan Simmons is dead. www.dignitymemorial.com/obituaries/l...
Complicated, of courseβhe wrote some wonderful books (eternally grateful to @mrsambarlow.bsky.social for introducing me to Carrion Comfort) and then also went full mask off fascist in later life, so, you know.
Before joining the RAF family, our Midlands site began as the Aerospace Museum at RAF Cosford, opening its hangars in 1974. From modest beginnings, five decades of dedication have helped us welcome 400,000+ visitors a year.

βThe Thing Expanded would simply not have been complete without the participation of Kurt Russell. He and the Carpenter film are a Thing-like amalgamβa package deal that goes all the way down to a molecular level.β
I loved Aliens Expanded, so I'll happily watch a 5-hour documentary on The Thing. π
βAre we the universeβs first technological species, or simply the only one left?β
Dr. Chenoa Tremblay began her public lecture at Rhodes University with a question that, over the years, has shifted from philosophy to experiment. π§ͺ π π©βπ¬

The last image taken by Ranger VIII on February 20, 1965
#OTD in 1965, Ranger VIII spacecraft transmitted 7,137 photographs of the Moon in the final 23 minutes of its mission before crashing as planned into Mare Tranquillitatis. The final image taken before impact has a resolution of 1.5 meters.
Alien church has pews, a pipe organ and smells of camphor. Classic McDevitt.
Human Spaceflight: 17 Feb 1965. Ranger 8 is launched today. Like Ranger 7 before it, the probe impacted the moon three days later, sending back over 7,000 Tv images on the way down. Ranger 8 impacted in the Sea of Tranquility. Once again, showing craters at every scale on the lunar surface.
Good chance that a republic referendum would still fail here in that instance.
The first books are available for Kindle - A Talent for War and The Engines of God.
I like both these series, even though theyβre not the most thrilling sci fi β¦ I wouldnβt call them cozy literature but theyβre pretty comfortable. I recommend checking them out!

This new paper's interesting results indicate a sudden 10-fold increase in lithium at 96 km altitude due to #SpaceX Falcon 9 re-entry debris.
This is now joining further modelling and evidence of impacts on the upper atmosphere - a shared global common we all rely on.

Your score on the AI face-detection demo: 17 out of 20 For context, the average person scores about 11 out of 20, so if you scored better than this you might be a super-AI-face detector.

βH.P. Lovecraftβs At the Mountains of Madness for beginning readersβ by R.J. Ivankovich, with a shuggoth on the cover. Yes, that is entire re-telling in the style of Dr. Seuss, and I loves it, precious!
Spread with green floating heads with tentacles monsters on the left, purple star-headed ones on the right. Text reads: βThen a war had begun for control of the Earth, and the two races fought it for all they were worth. But they fought to a stalemate and had to declare that the planet was something theyβd just have to share.β
Two intrepid explorers from the Miskatonic University Antarctic expedition, in a cavern with giant albino penguins. Text: βWe arrived in a star-spangled, carved hemisphere, where the path to the waiting abyss was quite clear.β
