I'm slowing down. Slamming the brakes on. Just because I can write fast doesn't make it good writing.

Editing takes time and focus. This is my new mantra, there's no rush, no deadline. I just need to tell the story in the best way possible.

I'm writing with the door open because the rescue cat demands it be open. It doesn't matter if she's asleep on the couch or out patrolling the garden. I must keep it open for her and be cold.

I'm so close to finishing this book, I just need to not freeze to death.

In every book I write, there's a moment when I've passed 70k words and every end of chapter could be the end of the whole book.

There's something pleasant about pausing to see if there are any essential loose ends to tie up.

An hour later, I thought I was doing so well, but Scrivener said I'd written 334 words. This did not compute.

I had coffee, recalled the deletion and all is well.
