Ipswich looking glorious in the sun. Brilliant 48h with the @pducambridge.bsky.social solving the pressing questions in infectious diseases, competing in penalty shoot outs and cooking up a storm #PDURetreat
Our work helped inform WHO policy on dengue vaccinesβsupporting the strategic use of Qdenga where it can do the most good. Huge thanks to my PhD supervisors Ilaria Dorigatti & Neil Ferguson for the opportunity and their support on this project!
Key findings:
1. Protection varies by serostatus & serotype
2. Cannot rule out an enhanced disease risk for seronegatives infected with serotypes 3 and 4, esp in children <6 years
3. Targeted Qdenga rollout (>6 yrs in high transmission settings) could still reduce hospitalisation burden by up to 20%
We built a Bayesian model linking antibody titres to protection-byβserotype, age & serostatusβand embedded it in a transmission model to evaluate real-world impact across settings.
Our new paper is out in @natmed.nature.com! We modelled the efficacy & public-health impact of the new Takeda #dengue vaccine (Qdenga), combining trial data with transmission models to guide optimal #vaccine use: rdcu.be/etk3h. π§΅π
