Our refusal to acknowledge the ongoing pandemic is mostly due to the need for the workers to sacrifice their health for the economy, and for the elites to profit off of our death and disability.
It's easy to look back with derision at the strategies used to ward off the Black Death (using flowers to ward off "bad air")...
But then you realize public health is recommending hand washing for an airborne disease.
We really have made little progress.

Having sufficient leave is really important. People need to be able to isolate while infectious. Also resting with a Covid infection can lower the risk of long term effects.
