Hey, I was reporting the other person with a rant reply to your post here for something else, & I just wanted to let you know that no one is recommending engaging with them because they seem to be spamming anyone who talks about this topic, even disabled people, with insults. Take care of yourself!

Calling (mainly disabled) people children or junior high students shows a concerning level of internalized ableism that you’ve turned against your peers at even the slightest possible disagreement or different perspective. Tearing others down before they even speak isn’t you engaging in good faith.

No one here has seen a good faith position or idea from you because you immediately tell people to shut up forever when someone does try to genuinely engage with you. Or you denounce them as a subpar conversation partner only worthy of insults before any conversation has even begun.

I don’t even know formal debate procedure, but even I know that you haven’t genuinely started a good faith debate with anyone if you can’t respond clearly and respectfully to someone asking you to not vilify them from the jump. It’s not a “bad faith dodge” to ask if you can treat people rationally.

This is a basic and crucial point for any discussion of LLMs’ use in teaching research or writing. Whether it can ape us, fool us, or get facts right or wrong is, in the end, irrelevant. The LLM is not the thinker we are trying to encourage; the LLM is not the writer that we are trying to improve.

It may have been his poor track record with getting students to their PhDs or my “anonymous” graduate survey where I was VERY honest, but good!

While also implying that we lack far more capabilities than we do and that average or below average performance in something necessitates that disabled people must specifically use AI tools to work and participate in society.

The idea that disabled folks must rely on AI tools that aren’t even truly designed with disabled people in mind or that we must accept that situation as the only way toward accessibility without criticism feels like a get-out-of-jail-free card for actual, sustainable accessibility improvements
