"We see a future where intelligence is a utility like electricity or water and people buy it from us on a meter and use it for whatever they want to use it for. The demand that we see for that..." - Sam Altman

everyone can agree that sam altman is singular, definitive proof that capitalism is pathologically inhumane, right??????
I joke on here that Iβm my universityβs unnamed AI detection expert, but Iβm now up to 4 speaker requests across my uni. Iβve been encouraged to submit proposals to conferences. Iβm set to work in the academic integrity office as service starting in summer after theyβve campaigned for me to joinβ¦
A young boy saw my jacket with a floral pattern today and said, βI like your flowersβ π₯Ήβ€οΈ
I complimented his cool beret π₯°
Yep! People study it as truthiness or the truthiness effect (considering something to be true based on intuition without clear evidence). Researchers also discuss a falsiness effect, too. They are very open about Colbertβs influence on the work. link.springer.com/article/10.3...
βTruthinessβ has been immortalized in cognitive science as a topic of research π₯°
You deserve to have a pillow that is consistently your preferred temperature for the next month πβΊοΈ Thank you so much for sharing!
Wait, you can get Luxury Balls in FRLG?? Honestly, your post has been far more helpful than the people posting their shiny Deoxys! π Thank you for sharing!!
Hey, I was reporting the other person with a rant reply to your post here for something else, & I just wanted to let you know that no one is recommending engaging with them because they seem to be spamming anyone who talks about this topic, even disabled people, with insults. Take care of yourself!
Calling (mainly disabled) people children or junior high students shows a concerning level of internalized ableism that youβve turned against your peers at even the slightest possible disagreement or different perspective. Tearing others down before they even speak isnβt you engaging in good faith.
No one here has seen a good faith position or idea from you because you immediately tell people to shut up forever when someone does try to genuinely engage with you. Or you denounce them as a subpar conversation partner only worthy of insults before any conversation has even begun.
I donβt even know formal debate procedure, but even I know that you havenβt genuinely started a good faith debate with anyone if you canβt respond clearly and respectfully to someone asking you to not vilify them from the jump. Itβs not a βbad faith dodgeβ to ask if you can treat people rationally.
Yeah, so itβs blatant and objective that they used AI with what they provided. Do I have to report the whole group now? Pleaseβ¦ Iβm tired
The βwe used AI and donβt want to get caughtβ vibe is really strong.
Me: βOk, this work is meant to be done in class with barely any tech. I want to just see your teamβs independent work using your own brains and nothing else.β
One group: βWe worked on it all weekend.β
Me: βOk, then can you send me the Google Doc youβre using?β
Them: βUhβ¦β
Whoops, βkeep [her] ignorant mouth shut about this topic foreverβ was the exact quote from your replyβ¦
No, what she said was that she wouldnβt engage with you if you treated her suggestion that we shouldnβt ignore AI criticisms as an extremist stance. You then didnβt clarify & immediately told her to βshut [her] ignorant mouthβ β¦ so a good faith argument has been missing from most of your repliesβ¦
I wear a mask in my car (easier than removing and putting it back on again repeatedly to protect my unfortunately immunocompromised body), so I unfortunately get it.
The βI donβt know the answer, so, clearly, no one else could possibly know more than meβ mindset is an under-discussed issue in modern culture
OpenAIβs push to become crucial infrastructure in education should not and cannot be separated from its broader entanglements with the US military and mass surveillance that includes students and teachers.
This is a basic and crucial point for any discussion of LLMsβ use in teaching research or writing. Whether it can ape us, fool us, or get facts right or wrong is, in the end, irrelevant. The LLM is not the thinker we are trying to encourage; the LLM is not the writer that we are trying to improve.
My one grandfather was a coal miner who even lived in a company town, and my other grandfather was in the military
Please clap. I apparently got my PhD advisor who basically never advised me to no longer take on grad students. Heβs been telling folks I was his last one.
It may have been his poor track record with getting students to their PhDs or my βanonymousβ graduate survey where I was VERY honest, but good!
While also implying that we lack far more capabilities than we do and that average or below average performance in something necessitates that disabled people must specifically use AI tools to work and participate in society.
The idea that disabled folks must rely on AI tools that arenβt even truly designed with disabled people in mind or that we must accept that situation as the only way toward accessibility without criticism feels like a get-out-of-jail-free card for actual, sustainable accessibility improvements
