I think this first hit me a number of years ago, when I read that democracies will be the exception in the world, not the rule.
We're seeing the same response following VDL's visit to Israel after Hamas' terrorist attack.
She tagged along with European Parliament president, Roberta Metsola, who had been invited by the Israeli parliament.
Both are from the same centre-right EU political group, the European People's Party.
Every single ad from a motor company has cars sweeping through empty city streets or triumphantly ascending up a pristine mountain road. If they were to show what the majority of their cars do, sitting in traffic on a rainy day, perceptions (and sales) might be different...

- Who takes over;
- Interceptor shortages from sustained drone retaliation;
- How to defend US bases in the region;
- Threats to ships in the Strait of Hormuz; and
- How to evacuate Americans with airspace closed.
This is a refreshing idea and departure in US foreign policy. What a shame that there is no historical example for the US to drawn upon for experience here, at all. I wonder how this will turnout...
