What are some great recommendations for MG and chapter books that reflect urban L.A.? Looking for characters that would resonate with boys and girls. Bilingual Spanish English also. Thanks!

I'm looking to get into gothic horrors/romances again... this looks like somewhere I could start. Any other Brautigans or similar authors you recommend? #booksky ππ

Hi Jennifer! My kiddos are interested in mystery/fantasy and graphic novels mostly. Example titles are π§΅
I'm working my way through the collection and noticed this gap, and the kids see it, too. I want them to see themselves in the books they read. I want them to be excited about reading!
My kiddos are requesting books with more representation. I was just hired by the school, and their library hasn't had a good inventory or circulation update since the early 2000s. Very little diversity and outdated storylines/characters.
School librarian here. What are some recommendations for chapter books and middle grade novels or series that reflect the experiences of urban, Los Angeles, primarily Latino/a students?
I have always used Goodreads, but I have been looking for a different app. I don't think I've touched my Goodreads since high school.
I've never tried Storygraph! I'll have to check it out.
Is it free? Any limits to the lists I can make? How similar is it to Goodreads?

The Eaton Fire destroyed thousands of homes in Altadena. It spared thousands of others. Now, the those "lucky ones" must go home and sort through the wreckage.
Will the community ever recover?

Great reporting by @laist.com on the #LAFires. So much misinformation to combat. Water resource & wildfire management is incredibly complex. We need to come together not point blame. Experts like UCLAβs Greg Pierce highlight limitations not failures of the system.
