The Show Must Go On: A groundbreaking digital humanities project brings theater history to the public, despite federal funding cuts

Delighted to share this feature story from @uocas.bsky.social about the London Stage Database project -- what our team has accomplished, how we are moving forward now that our #NEH grant has been cut, and why we believe this work remains important: cas.uoregon.edu/news/the-show-must-go

You can export records and collections search results directly from the site, as well. If you let me know what kinds of info you're interested in storing for future use, I can make suggestions about the quickest way to do so -- hopefully saving you a lot of copying and pasting!

We are fortunate to have stopgap support from UO Information Services to keep the site in active maintenance, and internal bridge funding to allow our student workers to finish out their spring term research appointments, so we are doing all we can with these precious weeks!

20.05.2025 22:29 πŸ‘ 1 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

The funding cuts threaten the long-term sustainability of the project, which will eventually become unstable and then obsolete if left under-resourced. However, there are no immediate plans to retire the site from UO servers, and the existing assets remain open access on GitHub and Zenodo.

Not even remotely small! The project would not exist in anything close to its current form without your creative problem-solving and very necessary encouragement at key moments.
