Does it trouble anyone that the US Constitution vests all war powers authority in the Congress, but the Executive branch is waging war without Congress having any involvement? www.nytimes.com/2026/02/28/w...
Haven’t seen it since it was at Houston. All the more reason to Make the Trek. #Ticonderoga
April Tatro makes a great “cat lady.” She is still with us at age 83. #TOSSatNight
Yup.
“X-ceiver” really means “transceiver.” #TOSSatNight
Love Barbara Babcock’s voice as the computer in Seven’s office. #TOSSatNight
You bet she could. #TOSSatNight
Dancer and Contortionist April Tatro plays the human form of Isis the cat. You can hear her story here: youtu.be/J_Bng1zJDFc #TOSSatNight
It seems pretty preposterous that NASA would not spot someone laying on the gantry swing-arm fiddling with the rocket. #TOSSatNight
You’ll be surprised how easy it is.
One atom at a time. #TOSSatNight
Shown in this episode is Apollo 4, the first flight test of the Saturn V moon rocket and the first launch of a rocket from the Kennedy Space Center launch pad 39A, now a SpaceX launch pad for the Falcon-9 and Falcon Heavy launch vehicles. #TOSSatNight
If you make the trek to Ticonderoga, you can see the costume worn by Teri Garr as Roberta Lincoln, designed by William Ware Theiss. When Roddenberry wanted the skirt shortened, Theiss told him it would then not drape properly becuase it was cut on the bias. It was shortened anyway. #TOSSatNight
Orbiting nuclear weapons featured in Kubrick’s movie as well. The Star Child returns to Earth and the first act is to detonate them in space, much like Gary Seven. #TOSSatNight
See if you can locate Supervisor 194 in this graphic. #TOSSatNight
The Enterprise makes a largely unmotivated time travel to a cloudless Earth (original series effects) of the 1960s. Like Kubrick’s movie 2001: a space odyssey, alien beings have dispatched agents (Gary Severn and Isis) to save humanity from self-destruction in the nuclear age. #TOSSatNight
A member of my project team was shot and killed on his porch this week. What a senseless loss. www.vvdailypress.com/story/news/c...
In a previous life I did some filming. Here I am behind the camera on location with Jimmy Doohan. The legendary Wilkie Cooper was DP on this production.
I’ll take your word for the lighting methods, but it makes me sad because it suggests that the artistry we got from Finnerman is no longer practicable, which is a loss to us all. I’m a photographer and appreciate the importance of light. Ralph described Finnerman as an artist who painted with light.
And, in any case, for this episode they were trying to seamlessly add new scenes to blend in with the heritage scenes. A more careful approach would have attempted to match the blocking and camera style with that used in the original series. I’m sure they did their best with what they had and knew.
True, but it goes beyond that. Ralph explained that television derives from the stage, which had no camera. His approach to blocking was to stage the action for story telling and then decide where to place/move the camera. Just because you can more easily move the camera doesn’t mean you should.
There are other notable differences in style, like camera placement and way more camera movement. In my conversations with the late Ralph Senensky, he lamented the decline in production craft, saying he could not watch modern TV, and reminding us of John Ford: “move the actor, not the camera.”
Thanks for the link to this curiously “giggly” conversation. Love Armin, with whom I’ve had interesting lunch conversations. West seems to indicate that the equipment and methods used for lighting had changed so much they could not replicate Finnerman’s look. I’m doubtful this is really true.
If so, they didn’t listen to him carefully enough.
This lineup with the DS9 characters substituted in just great. #TOSSatNight
Tables in the bar are also sharp-cornered, not oval shaped as in the original. #TOSSatNight.
