So the idea is to read less? I don’t get it.
we actually need to use AI for that search anyway as we already have perfectly good tools for searching for literature. I’m talking about outsourcing the actual work of the review to generative AI.
Again, I’m genuinely curious. Trying to understand if I’m missing something.
does not do, has under appreciated, got wrong (whatever the claim is), I stand behind it because I’ve read everything I’m making claims about and I’ve sat with that literature and grappled with it.
To be clear I’m not talking about using AI to identify literature that you then read. I don’t think
Genuine question for advocates of the AI-generated lit review: where does your confidence in the claims about existing literature made in such a literature review come from? What makes you stand behind the claims? I’m genuinely curious. When I make an argument about what existing work does or
I am so glad that I only have a few more months left of being responsible for investigating allegations of academic misconduct. Looking forward to just being responsible for engaging with my own students and discussing what and how they learn.
I met with AI data labelers in Kenya who are organizing their colleagues to fight the brutal working conditions and horrible pay given to the workers at the "bottom of the AI supply chain." They believe the NDAs they've signed are unenforceable so are speaking out:

Seeing more and more stories about fake citations showing up in academic papers, and I just have one response to ‘scholars’ who are too LAZY to even look up - let alone read (god forbid!) - the sources they cite: QUIT. Quit now, and open a job for someone who gives a damn. You won’t be missed!
oh good i was worried it was white supremacy and capitalism
If I can’t unionize Claude then it’s not conscious, next question
We don’t talk enough about how morally depraved the tech industry turned out to be. Every single ounce of their self-regarding statements of values was an outright lie.
I think Editors have to take a strong stance on NOT permitting reviewers to put work they are reviewing into things like ChatGPT. I know you can’t police it, but it’s already bad enough that these companies have stolen our IP to train their LLMs without the theft being further facilitated.
And taking away right to work has been hugely harmful. But we need to be very wary of this newfound ‘desire’ to reinstate right to work, especially when coupled with withdrawal of support, in the context of the hostile environment, and by a govt who have fully bought into the asylum-as-crime tale.
receipt of a job offer? After the first pay cheque? A couple of months of work? These are all very different scenarios and it matters hugely when considering withdrawing support.
To be clear: asylum seekers want to work and they don’t want to be reliant on Home Office support or charities.
employment and be more vulnerable to exploitation.
Coupling this, as Mahmood seems intent to do, with withdrawal of support, seems like a recipe for mass homelessness among asylum seekers granted the right to work.
At what point will support be withdrawn? When right to work is received? Upon
people into border enforcers and everyday scenarios into border encounters - right to work and right to rent checks - and legal penalties for employing or renting to those without legal status.
This poses the very real possibility that those granted the right to work will face massive barriers to
Of course right to work should be restored to asylum seekers. That’s common sense. BUT, there’s very real danger that this will be utterly mismanaged and actually prove disastrous.
We’ve had decades of politicians equating seeking asylum with criminality, combined with legislation turning everyday
And what makes it so much worse is that the Home Office KNOWS that there’s no evidence for it. It isn’t that they are ignorant of the evidence. They are lying about it.
Still waiting on a defense of AI that doesn't sound like a 15-year-old complaining about homework
okay, Ill bite.
What do you think the point of reading for and writing a literature review is? The process of reading and writing is crucial for THINKING. Your ideas are shaped by all of this, offloading it to gAI, no matter how "good" you think gAI is at it defeats the purpose entirely.
Tell us again how the increase in Reform support is rooted in “legitimate concerns”…
When are my legitimate concerns going to be addressed?
Posting the below again for anyone interested in what the EVIDENCE says about whether harsher immigration/asylum policies deter irregular arrivals.
Spoiler alert: THEY DON’T WORK AND THE HOME OFFICE KNOWS THEY DON’T WORK!!!
But didn’t Trump “obliterate” #Iran’s nuclear capabilities like 9 months ago…
This from @adilray.bsky.social made me cry ❤️
Preach!
What, pray tell, would these “ancient” norms and values be? Until roughly 100 years ago, no one but white men could vote or hold office. Only slightly earlier could non-propertied white men vote. I think your love for “ancient” norms and values is giving you away M’Lord…
I know it’s a by-election and so we need to be cautious about interpreting any nationwide consequences, and we’re years from the next GE. But I have to say I feel better this morning knowing that enough voters recognised that Reform aren’t the only ‘answer’ and that a better politics is possible.
Great friends of the average working class Brit, right? 🤮🤮😡😡
surely we can teach the children how to ethically use this product designed for unethical use by unethical people
…hasn’t reduced citizen unemployment; hasn’t reduced the wealth gap; hasn’t made your utility bills cheaper.
All it’s done is pit communities against each other; foster anger and resentment; and made a small group of people and a large number of politicians rich and powerful.
When will it stop?
