Love the fantastic, horror and overall uncanny literature and film. Specialist in Japanese fantastic literature, I teach Spanish language, literature and film at a university in Japan. I also love photography and I am a dog-dad of three.
Well, it is well overdue that I start reading this and many more things for my upcoming seminar… I guess this first year of teaching a seminar on the monster as a point of reference to study Spanish culture will be a bit of testing and improvisation. But of course, I still need to prepare! Let’s go!
A bit of an update: we got our third dog around 3 weeks ago or so. Her name is Julie, her Japanese name is Yuri (結織) and she is a Maltese mix with Cavalier. She looks like a cute cotton ball but she is a feisty one!

I cannot wait to watch the new mononoke movie. The animation of the series was superb! I agree, I think that in the Meiji period I saw mostly bakemono, but it could be a particular preference of certain authors. I specialize in Izumi Kyōka and he was really fond of bakemono…

Today’s reading. Still a theologian white man born in the XIX century, with all that it entails, but let’s see what I can make use of! This time in Spanish cause my Spanish friends gifted this to me long ago.
I am forcing my believes in them. I am just trying to make them see critically movies, literature and the news. We see examples of American movies, some Spanish-speaking and then I try to bring it back to their immediate surroundings. Hopefully that will make them see the problems ahead…
I’m terrified of the political situation globally, but at least I’m trying to make my students more politically and culturally minded so that they are not easily manipulated by the conservative media and politicians here in Japan. It’s a fine rope to walk, cause I do not want to make it look like….
