shouting for the journalists in the back: IT’S NOT AN IMMIGRATION CRACKDOWN.

It’s a federal occupation of a city that didnt vote the right way. And the occupying force is there to enforce civil infractions, misdemeanors.

We keep us safe. Good luck out there.

It feels bad to have your private information shared by your enemies, especially in an atmosphere of threat and terror. If this has happened to you, take good care of yourself. This might mean stepping back a minute to process and re-center. (Or it might not. We're all different.)

There are many other resources available, both dox prevention and aftercare if you've been doxxed. Use your noodle when evaluating these. Tech changes over time, which means information flows differently. An older resource may have great advice about security culture but not be up to date on apps.

Building a robust security culture, both personally and among your networks, takes time. It is one of the ways we take care of each other. It is worth doing well. If you've never thought about it before, start now. It's much better to prevent than react.

If your information has NOT been shared, but you’re concerned it might be— or just if you’re learning about doxxing for the first time, in which case, welcome!— then start at the top of the article. Begin by learning how information leaks out, then take care of those leaks one at a time.

You have the option to respond publicly, but think it through first. Sometimes responding publicly— even by shutting down certain implicated accounts— can give the impression that the dox hit its mark.

If you’ve been doxxed you’ll want to quietly, privately alert your trusted friends, family, and networks. Sometimes a campaign of reporting the doxxes will get them taken down. This works best if many people do it.

Where you start depends what’s happened. If your information is already being shared publicly by enemies, then scroll down to “If You Have Been Doxxed.” Here are some highlights:
- Don’t panic!
- Do not approach the police
- Ask trusted friends for support
- Do not give an immediate public response
