Awks for Tories & Reform who want to keep us hooked on fossil fuels: new @theCCCuk report shows transition to net zero will cost less than a single oil shock - £4bn a year - as well as delivering health & security benefits
Our dependency on fossil fuels makes us vulnerable. Wars across the world are pushing up prices for households in the UK.
Why keep waiting for the next crisis? We need to transition to clean power as fast as we can to protect people and our economy.

Lets see, eh?
It’s the renewables, stupid.
10 days of war have cost our taxpayers an additional €3 billion in fossil fuel imports.
As long as Europe depends on imported fossil fuels, our security & our energy bills remain hostage to geopolitical chaos.
Europe must invest in independence, not dependency. ⚡🌍

Memo to the Department for Infrastructure:
Instead of spending money on adverts to encourage people to cycle in Belfast, when large parts of the city aren't safe for it, how about investing in safe cycling infrastructure?
These tick box exercises serve no one, but yourselves.
It's no longer OK for you to sit in the house of Lords because your dad did.
But if your mate put you there?
That's fine.
Neither of these really feel like democracy to me.

1/🌡️ Global warming passed a milestone on 17th Nov 2023 that barely made the news
For the first time ever, the world's daily average temperature was 2.0°C above pre-industrial levels
Here's what the data says about when that becomes the annual norm, & whether it's coming sooner than anyone expects🧵
“Electrification has been touted as a silver bullet: an easy solution that alleviates the GHG burden from car owners worldwide. This isn’t the case. Extensive vehicle electrification only lowers emissions by a portion of what’s needed.” Via @wrirosscities.bsky.social

You're right, cars shouldn't dominate a space like this. I'm also not sure if the local businesses are aware of how unappealing the present situation is.
"Everywhere he went, Andrew was described as rude, arrogant, petulant, shallow, uninformed, unethical, contrary, childish and spoiled"
We don't need the royals and we certainly don't need their idea of "public service".
Great read.

Personally, I'm much more likely to be put off visiting North Berwick because of the locals' wildly disproportionate response to small parking charges, rather than the parking charges themselves.

How much more evidence do we need? The ultra-rich and the governments supporting them will destroy everything for the sake of profit, power and pride. Nothing is precious to them - not human life, not the living world - except their own wealth and status. Our survival depends on resisting them.
Any time soon they'll be embracing 15 minute cities

Anyhow, congestion charging has proven to be very effective elsewhere and should be considered again in Edinburgh.

By no means as efficient and reliable as battery.

The downgrading of modern language teaching is Scotland is short-sighted culturally as well as economically. As a graduate in German and Russian from a Scottish university, I'm in a good place to know.

BREAKING — The UK is joining in with the US/Israeli/French campaign against independent UN special rapporteur Francesca Albanese.
