Which program do you use? I have tried asking Gemini about what is in PDFs of cases but so far the accuracy rate has been low (ie it says the text says x but it actually doesn't).

"The president has frequently railed against judges when they rule against him. What often happens next is a barrage of violent threats from his followers against those judges. We spoke with 26 federal judges– 9 Democratic appointees, 17 Republican, both sitting and retired."

WOW. 19 people, all who were imprisoned and mistreated in a foreign prison at the direct command of the United States, are brave enough to say β€œWe are innocent, and we will endure more time imprisoned to prove that.”

I can only admire the enormous courage such a move takes.

Katabasis has some similar themes re academia. One of the best books I have read this year! I like the multilayered references and how willing she is to go there. It's rare for an author to be able to get that uncomfortable and also be impossible to put down.

1/ ProPublica collected handwritten letters in mid-January from children held at the Dilley Immigration Processing Center, the same facility where 5-year-old Liam Conejo Ramos was taken.

Hundreds of kids are still detained.

We’ll let the children’s words speak for themselves. 🧡

One important way judges can respond to lying as a threat to the rule of law. If other courts follow this up it could have a substantial effect.

Thus, rather than require such adjudications, the Department is changing its regulations to provide the Board more flexibility in reviewing appeals. Instead, for appeals taken from decisions issued after this IF becomes effective, as explained in
Section IV.A of this preamble, the default will be summary dismissal unless a majority of current Board members vote to consider the appeal on the merits. And such dismissals
will occur quicklyβ€”within 15 days of filing the appealβ€”allowing aliens to seek Federal court review expeditiously, rather than potentially waiting for years for a Board decision that in the vast majority of cases would affirm the underlying Immigration Judge
decision.

🚨HOLY CRAP. The Trump admin just took a SLEDGEHAMMER to due process, largely eliminating the Board of Immigration Appeals process and MANDATING DISMISSAL of ALL appeals (which cost $1,000 thanks to OBBBA) filed after tomorrow unless a majority of the BIA votes to hear the case.

A painted winter scene showing a group of people traveling together across a snow-covered landscape. Adults and children wear heavy coats, shawls, and head coverings in muted browns, grays, and reds. Some carry bundles or baskets, one woman holds a child, and another person pulls a small wooden sled. A horse stands near the center with its head lowered. A dark-colored dog walks in the foreground. Bare trees and a rough wooden structure appear in the background, with a pale sky and distant hills partially obscured by haze.

When the United States passed the Fugitive Slave Act in 1850, it led many to seek freedom outside the USA.
From 1850 and 1860, between 15,000 to 20,000 escaped enslaved persons came to the Province of Canada, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia.
This is the story.

DHS should not wait the full 30 days to drop this case. It should announce immediately that it will not appeal, so Guan Heng can walk free.

And it should give serious thought to why an immigration crackdown supposedly intended to target the worst of the worst is endangering the best of the best.

This is good from @georginaq.bsky.social on the lack of data (and curiosity) about how the different parts of the justice system operate - in this case how late delivery of defendants from custody to courts is delaying trials

Using the correct pronouns for people is like using the correct name: it’s a basic signal of respect. And for trans, nonbinary, and gender diverse people, being referred to by the correct pronouns is a signal of affirmation and acceptance.
