I am starting to walk away from (non-essential) purchases that ask more questions than “what is your credit card number”

Some rough numbers:
Arts contributes about $131B to Canada's GDP on roughly $1B in subsidies
Oil & Gas contributes about $200B on roughly $30B in subsidies
Arts supports about 1.1 million jobs in Canada
Oil & Gas supports about 900K jobs in Canada
Also, the arts just makes our lives better.
One of the best things I’ve read in a while:
They are in a room made of pipe and drape - there are probably people on the other side of that flimsy fabric curtain…nobody needs wifi to spy on them
I’ve had both shingles (at 48) and the vaccine (at 50). The vaccine knocked me out for a day with each dose and cost me over $200 each time. I would take the vaccine again 100 times to avoid ever having shingles again.
6 years today the first COVID case was identified in a man in Wuhan marking the beginning of a global pandemic that changed the world. We are way less prepared today to face another pandemic than we were back then. This fact makes me sad.
Pulleys and levers required, and appreciated!
Coming to Calgary’s High Performance Rodeo in January…a new solo show from Daniel MacIvor
One of my most strongly held beliefs is that only humans should be able to use the word “I”
Brutal
Everytime you want to use AI to make some ridiculous image or video, ask yourself - is this worth the lives of Congolese people? droughts in low income US cities? exploitation of artists & cultural producers? extinction?
!!!
Robin Williams' daughter has some quality thoughts on AI slop
i have to say, as a trans journalist who has covered the "trans debate" for about a decade now, there is no daylight between how the trump administration and conservatives lie about tylenol and autism and how they've lied about youth trans care.

My problem with everything is that I know For A Fact that the purpose of life is frivolity. It is to fool around & pursue joy.
I think the coolest thing you can do right now is live with integrity and care about the people around you, not just your friends and family but your community. Deny the lie they want you to believe, that taking as much as you can while giving nothing back is the goal.
"fuck ice and free palestine" while the money counter falls
A LITTLE ON THE NOSE DON'T WE THINK
If you are okay with this, if you think this is justified, if you think people living on the street have brought this upon themselves, if you think this is good leadership, you may be able to fool yourself that you care about others but you don’t fool me
when the AI bubble finally collapses and everyone who spent a year smugly hyping it suddenly has to come crawling back with their tail between their legs, i just want to say i am not going to be the bigger person about it. i am going to be meaner than you can even believe
There isn't enough money in the world to satisfy a billionaires greed
But there is enough to feed the hungry
“The old world is dying, and the new world struggles to be born; now is the time of monsters.”
— Antonio Gramsci
I am so glad I’m not stoned right now
Highly recommend this training!
I *cannot* fucking stress this enough:
The threat of AI is *NOT* making movies for us, but the hundreds of jobs it will be able to easily eliminate from crew positions. VFX. Drone pilots. Color timing. Sound mixing. Clerical staff.
If we don't move to protect jobs NOW, they WILL go away forever.
Stopping vaccine development is another example of "eugenics is everywhere."
Expecting survival of the fittest when one gets infectious disease and cancer is eugenics.
disrupt “A.i.” - by not fucking using it
Many women of color I know are taught their entire lives to work twice as hard but not get mad when they are still underpaid, under-promoted, under-recognized or had their ideas outright stolen. But many don't turn to conservatism in response.
