Final grad school semester begins in less than a month. I will be writing my capstone thesis, and I’m hoping to analyze how Black women cultivated Constitutional knowledge to lay the ground work for the mid-20th-century Civil Rights Movement in the CA Bay Area.

With starting the first week of August and only two 4-day weekend breaks, it was a looooooooong semester.

I do NOT recommend reading Fed Paper 10 with your 12th grade Gov’t students when in a boot. I got so excited about what Madison was saying that I tried to skip/jump around, causing significant pain to my already damaged foot.
However, I definitely had my students attention!

We are home & celebrating the amazing work that our kids did! 2 parades then 7 shows in 9 days throughout CA, & a day at Disneyland. All while sleeping on a gym floor and 3 hour morning rehearsals.

Every year my students come up with great ideas to teach people about their chosen topics!
Displaying America’s Rise to Power Museum exhibit construction has started!
Students chose topics within the theme, conducted research, and are now building exhibits to teach visitors about their topics. They will also write a paper analyzing how their topic contributed to America’s rise to power.
I asked the meaning of the DOI — a couple just said it’s a document and a couple said things like liberty and freedom, or it contains peoples’ rights. I didn’t count any of those as correct. For context, we studied it in both grade levels in August.
In response to HCR's 5/1/25 post, I polled my 11th & 12th graders - 92% know the Declaration of Independence is about independence, 100% know it's not a message of unity, love, and respect.
Perhaps the President needs a refresher in US History & Civics.
