I found two Tom Adams cover art Christies I've been trying to replace (mine had broken spines tho' the cover was fine) in great condition plus one I've been trying to find forever(it has a marked spine & bent back cover but it's so hard to find in the wild and the front cover with the art is fine.)

The bookseller most impressed w/ our haul from their store (they all were, but this one was the most vocal) was the co-owner of Bodies In The Bookstore in Cambridge. Which yes, is an all "Crimes" (i.e. Mystery for US folk) bookstore w/ both new & secondhand books. J was, of course, in his element.

I'll say this, we scored multiple free canvas bags (the good kinds, like Daunt's big thick ones for example) from every single place. Our loyalty cards at all the places who had them also racked up a tidy amount to spend next time (just like the did last trip for this one!) #bookcollector #booklover

Baggage handler at EWR who helped pull our suticases from behind the others lumped in front lf them:" What do you have in here, bricks?!!"
J and me together:" No, just books."
(I won't tell you how many we bought [new &secondhand] cos it's a ridiculous amount even for us.

Something huge always happens the day we go to London, two times of which coincided with attacks/a war breaking out. The other 4 times were huge (global) natural disasters and coups.

Re last post: If you know me for 5 mins in real life you know I will never be frivolous about war. But enough people in my life have seen this weird coincidence that when I turned my phone on, after landing in LHR, last Sat that I had 9 msgs to the tune of"you need to stop going to London".

We are back on US soil. The last couple of times when we left and war/attacks broke out the daywe left, things settled about 48 hours after we were finally home. If we are in fact some weird butterfly effect for the world, let's home in 48 hours we see the same settling this time.

(Today sucks. More than even the past day, days, weeks, months, years. And yet probably is still bettwr than tomorrow. So yes, grab the moments of happiness however small and fleeting.)

Please check in on your trans friends today. What is happening in Kansas is magnifying every valid fear of theirs even more so today. Understand unless you are a white "Christian" male, this *is* eventually your future, too, so if nothing else fuels your support for them let that do so. #transrights

Re last few reposts: also this means inability to vote, which aligns with the push fornthe SAVE act and the recent ruling of SCOTUS that the USPS can tamper with your mail and you habe zero recourse (but it remains a federal crime for everyone else. )

Because of the National driver register, since their licenses are suspended, trans folks cannot move to another state and get a new license until they remove the suspension on their existing Kansas license.
They can't even escape this by moving to another state.

And any trans person arrested under this will be placed in units of their sex assigned at birth. For trans women, this means v coding, rape, and sexual assault. They'll also be denied access to hormones and forced to detransition. I can't begin to tell you just how cruel all this is.

I have a horrible sinking feeling that this means the police will purposefully looking for and running license plates aligned with these drivers' licenses to arrest them. Which I'm sure the people affected are thinking same. On top of potentially losing jobs or unable to make [medical] appointments.

J did a project on LofF acting as a prosecutor trying Jack. Like yours, he was hit hard & even to this day the "death" is one he brings up as something that really affected him beyond just the fictional boundaries. Somewhere we have video of him dressed in his suit delivering his "closing argument".

Hah, just saw this after I typed the other. P.S If he or A or M like mysteries, J is a bonafide expert (his own faves are locked room mysteries). He's collected over 500 of them from different eras [and countries] so could probably find a rec or two even narrowed down by specific likes and dislikes.

J got 1984, Clockwork Orange, The Handmaid's Tale, Kallocain, Brave New World, We & Anthem for the next couple of bdays. There are some really good YA (that aren't Hunger Games knock offs) like the Silo series. Also obvs The Giver series. He's also the exactly right age for Lord of the Flies.

Good job. For an interesting linguistic dystopian book, get him Ella Minnow Pea. Let me know if you need other recs; I can give you classics, recents, YA, non American/Brit authors, in different categories, if he likes the genre. Weirdly, living it back home is what drew me to it.

We've had no power since 4AM b/c of the snow storm. ETA to restore is 4PM Thurs. We've well water so no power also means no water...'cept I'm married to the handiest person who figured how to hook a backup battery to the well pump & customized two separate generators himself so we're warm & ok.

J used it not just for piano (which he started on) but also viola and trombone (which he's pursuing professionally) and I always loved how it seemed to be different for each: in one case coaxing, in another assisting, and in yet another a counterpoint almost.
