It’s hard to overstate the impact these brands had on the very same kids Epstein was targeting

(one note re: this article’s gentle treatment of Les Wexner: there’s no way he wasn’t complicit - AT BEST - in Epstein’s crimes when so many of them took place at his mansions)

One fault that democrats have that republicans genuinely don’t is open, seething contempt for their base. Now I’m no scientist but this might exacerbate their structural disadvantages

Screencap from Substack article by Sarah Kendzior:

Did the partial release of the Epstein files push Trump into a war he would rather avoid? Possibly. Trump usually does not need to be blackmailed into evil: he’s a volunteer. He is largely incapable of shame. Anything that can control him has to be worse than what has already been revealed. Given Netanyahu’s half century of close ties to Trump and Kushner, Epstein’s ties to Trump, and Maxwell’s connection to Israel, it is likely that if anyone has that kind of blackmail, Israel does. (This does not rule out other countries from having it as well.)

How does this end? In Trump’s mind, the “one and done” attack may be nuking Iran. Trump has been obsessed with nuclear weapons since the 1980s and expressed a belief that the world will end in nuclear war. In 1984, he said that Roy Cohn wanted him to study nukes for his future. Trump’s trepidation turned to intrigue in 2016, when, while running for office, he said, “If we have them, why can’t we use them?” Trump may cope with his fear of annihilation by being the one who can push the button.

NBC News poll

Voters hold negative views of Al. In fact, the only topics less popular in the survey were the Democratic Party and Iran.

Unlike 20th century fascists who wanted their countries strong and formidable, Trump & crew want to bleed the US dry and then divide up what’s left to be sold to the highest bidder. They also want us too poor and desperate to put up a fight

Harris would’ve handled Iran better cuz she cares about America staying a strong empire while Trump’s happy to burn our country down if it benefits him and his cronies, but she would have been no less militaristic

We absolutely deserve better, and I’m so tired of being scolded for saying so

Screencap from Intercept article:

Today, those same diehard war hawks — the very people who planned and carried out the Iraq invasion — are proudly throwing their full support behind Vice President Kamala Harris in the November presidential election.

Chief among them is former Vice President Dick Cheney. Not far behind are a clutch of other Bush-era figures aligned with the neoconservative movement, like Bill Kristol; former officials like former Attorney General Alberto Gonzales; and staffers for the late former Republican presidential nominee Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz.

Harris is, in turn, embracing her new right-wing fan club, touting endorsements from more than 200 Republican staffers who worked for George W. Bush, McCain, and another former Republican presidential nominee, Sen. Mitt Romney, R-Utah.

The party’s 2024 platform also reflects this rightward shift. A section from the 2020 platform on ending forever wars and opposing regime change was completely removed in 2024. The Democratic Party went from calling for an end to U.S. support for Saudi Arabia’s brutal war in Yemen to championing the Biden administration’s plan for a normalization deal between Israel and the Persian Gulf monarchy — a plan that could also put American lives on the line to protect the Saudi dictatorship for decades to come.

Some of the most glaring neocon-coded changes in the platform have to do with Iran policy. This year’s platform attempted to portray Trump as being too soft on Iran, while including no mention of the Trump administration’s assassination of a top Iranian military commander.

Since we’re relitigating the 2024 election today, it’s worth noting that when Kamala Harris says she “predicted” a lot of what’s happening now it’s probably cuz she was also planning on attacking Iran: archive.is/9pi8d

I once asked a bookseller at a large indie store how many people would have to buy a book for it to get the attention of the store buyer and cause an additional order and they said: Three.

And he’s a douche with a profile picture of a truly awful character from BoJack Horseman named Flip McVicker, which the creator of the show subtly called out on Twitter:

Jesse Signal is a writer with no medical or scientific background who pushes transphobic junk science, harasses trans women in his spare time, and allegedly violated the HIPAA rights of a minor (sources in my comment below). He’s been published in New York Magazine, the Atlantic & the New York Times

This series is a must-listen, but I disagree with Robert Evans’ conclusion that Epstein was radicalized after his 2008 arrest

Like, it definitely didn’t help, but in 2003 Epstein literally proposed and funded a Harvard program that pushed the “science” that success is genetic: archive.is/vGE24

If you’re a cis person (like me) but you don’t know who Jesse Singal is, his whole grift relies on exploiting cis ignorance of gender-affirming care cuz he thinks we’re easy marks. Don’t fall for it

Years of U.S., NATO miscalculations left Ukraine massively outgunned The U.S. Army and NATO made key strategic, funding and production mistakes that led to shortages of a pivotal weapon Ukraine needs to thwart Russia's advances.

Trump/Hegseth are hell bent on exhausting the last stockpiles of munitions we have left with no real ability to scale up production to meet demand.

Either 2 things happen, deescalation or it escalates to tactical nuclear weapons. I pray to god it's not the latter.

Bibi is saying plainly what many warned would happen ever since he and Trump violated international law together for mutual gain back in 2016 (not US election interference, but undermining the UN and then-President Obama: archive.is/7HyFz)

This neoliberal procedural fetishism is not Democrats being weak. It's Democrats supporting murder and global destabilization but not wanting to come out right out and say it.

It's actually WORSE than full-throated support, by seeking a veneer of legalism around evil and immoral violence.

We will be fortunate if we escape this conflict without it escalating into a nuclear one, partly because of who Trump is as a person and partly because there are people around him who see such escalation as conducive to the goals of their particular and often religious zealotries.

War and mass casualties are never a "distraction". They are an abomination. But saying the war on Iran is a distraction from Epstein is especially ridiculous:

If you’re still carrying the torch for the Democrats or spending your time defending them, please, I beg you, look around.

They’re saying they agree with this illegal war, they just demand the privilege to make it legal.

This isn’t opposition. This isn’t capitulation. This is cooperation.

You sound like an unhinged person if you in plain words describe what’s happening, but the Trump admin demanded Anthropic’s AI be able to kill things for it w/out human approval and also do mass surveillance.

Anthropic said no, and now the admin is trying to destroy the company in retaliation.
