John Swinney: 'I won't rest until child poverty is eradicated in Scotland' In his Daily Record column, First Minister John Swinney says he will today unveil further steps to tackle child poverty.

Scotland has the lowest child poverty rate in the UK, and 90,000 fewer children live in poverty thanks to our policies.

But decisions at Westminster have too often held us back.

I want to fully eradicate child poverty, and Scotland should have the full powers to do it.

Brexit: the £240bn mistake we can't afford to keep making - West Country Voices Nearly ten years after the referendum, the numbers are in. And they’re devastating. The economic carnage Multiple independent studies published in 2025 have reached the same brutal conclusion: By 2025...

An excellent breakdown of all areas of Brexit damage

By 2025, Brexit has reduced UK GDP by 6 to 8 per cent.

That’s £240bn per year that our economy has lost.

Not “might lose.” HAS LOST

Second poll in a month puts the SNP on track for a majority in Holyrood In this bin-fire of a UK it’s nice to be able to report a glimmer of hope for a change. For the second time within a month, an opinion poll has put the level of support for the SNP at …

My latest blog piece, the second poll within a month puts the SNP on track to win a majority in its own right in Holyrood in May, with the added bonus that Jackie Baillie loses her seat.

Project forward to 2036 under a majority Reform government and the picture darkens further. Britain would be smaller, older and whiter; more isolated from Europe; paradoxically, more vulnerable to foreign interterence and less able to fund its own defence.
The welfare state would shrink to a skeleton. Charity would fill the gaps.
Flags would proliferate; rights would not. The police and courts would be politicised. The BBC could disappear.
The NHS would survive only as a minimal safety net. Protections against discrimination would erode - you might indeed be sacked for being disabled.
Migrants and even their British-born children could find their rights curtailed unless they were deemed to
"contribute" sufficiently. Meanwhile, the wealthiest would enjoy a generous, low-tax regime.

“Rarely has a British political party unveiled a programme that combines cruelty with impracticality on such an extravagant scale.”

Chilling on Reform’s increasingly confident fascism. High on viciousness and greed. Very low on wisdom. A ruinous combination.

We promised all the money set aside to mitigate the two-child cap would be spent on continuing to tackle child poverty, and we’re delivering on that promise. Children First say this will be ‘life changing,’ and will further drive down child poverty in Scotland – already the lowest in the UK.

I feel it’s important to let everyone know that it was the Tory/Lib Dem led council that made the decision to NOT FILL GRIT BINS! SNP councillors were against their plans. This is quite astonishing from local Tory MPs. 👇

Today is #RLSDay which marks the birthday of the Scottish writer Robert Louis Stevenson who would have been 175 today.
It's also a good day to remember that it is NOT actually his birthday because in 1891 he gave it away to a young girl because she didn't like her birthday. 🧵
