I know I didn’t expect to change his entire perspective, but maybe these little interactions could help interrupt the vicious “get rich with real estate” cycle. I don’t know.

I genuinely wasn’t looking for advice, and I wasn’t trying to be rude. I just wanted him to see and possibly acknowledge that what he did - while it made HIM rich - impacted people like me, who work at the institution he went to, just trying to live comfortably in the community I work in.
I said “I’d be happy to give it a shot but you gotta admit it’s a little hard to do that when you’re being priced out of the neighborhoods you want to live in.” He waved his hand at me like he was dismissing me and said “I’m just trying to give you some advice.” And walked away.
He told me “that’s what you should do if you ever want to afford a house”. I said “I’m actually one of the tenants in this scenario, my rent keeps going up and the properties are getting bought up by investors and management companies so they can do exactly that”
He told me about his house in Florida, his “investment properties” all over the state, and how it all started because he talked a guy into letting him pay his mortgage and essentially buy a property without involving any kind of legal process.
He said that before he bought his first house, we went to an apartment complex where “tenants weren’t paying the value of the place” and told the owner he’d pay his mortgage payment and update the property until he became the owner. He said he did this 3 times.
I was at a convention for work and a man in his 80s approached me, we chatted about the place I work, and then proceeded to tell me about how he got “rich”. 🧵
Every so often I try to understand what investing is, and I still don’t understand how it’s an actual thing that people have the money to do. Like yall just have pockets of money… marinating somewhere? And tied to a corporation somehow? Can someone explain to me like I’m 5 how that’s not weird?
Buzzcut Season by Lorde popped up on my daylist and it’s like a portal to 2013. I will be living here the rest of the week.
I can already tell this Gaga album is going to be my entire personality for the rest of 2025
OKAY DOECHIIIIIIIIIII
The revolution may need violence. That is a possibility.
But it also needs healers.
It needs gardeners.
It needs leaders.
It needs managers.
It needs cooks.
It needs farmers.
It needs tailors.
It needs educators.
It needs journalists.
It needs artists.
It needs builders.
You are not useless.
I am so tired of finding out when I was not the one who fucked around.
In the random 12 hours that TikTok was banned, I deleted the app from my phone so I wasn’t constantly checking to see if it was back up. It hasn’t been in the App Store since, so now I can’t redownload it. Now that it’s been a week I think it was a good decision after all…
I used to teach elementary music and I loved teaching recorder! However I gave them practice time in class and didn’t let them take them home for this exact reason 😂
I feel like I need a disclaimer on every goofy thing I post on the internet like “I know it sounds like I’m having fun over here but believe me I am also in a constant state of rage over the inevitable descent into fascism”
At least we can all agree we’re Buffalo Bills fans tomorrow
How the fuck is it still only January
It’s so hard to not feel hopeless. But you will make it, we’ll make it. We have to💜
Remember, my fellow trans people, if the government stops recognizing your gender, their opinions are of no consequence to your value.
If the most evil people on earth don’t approve of you, that’s a good thing.
Weird that we have to say this, but the government doesn’t get to decide what gender a person is.
This year, my New Year’s resolutions are more like general guidelines I want to live by:
Embrace creativity
Be musical
Engage with local community
Looking for ways to do the last one that aren’t just donating money!
We have to create;
it is the only thing louder than destruction;
it is the only chance the bars are gonna break.
Our hands full of colour
reaching towards the sky - a brush stroke in the dark
It is not too late
That starry night - it is not yet dry.

We’re in a fucking dystopia
Thought I'd share my 2025 motto! 👇🏻
And a gentle reminder to join your local Democratic Club! 💙
