Little evidence of Baynard’s Castle survives. A blue plaque, street name, multi-storey car park & an exceptionally ugly office building called Baynard House. Palace particularly associated with House of York, with Richard III proclaimed king there 1483 #baynardscastle #richardiii #greatfireoflondon

A day filled with poignant reflection as the permanent exhibition dedicated to the plaster casts of ancient Pompeians opened in #Pompeii.
At last they are given context: where, when and how they were found, what they were found with, and details such as their sex and approximate age.

The β€˜de Brecy Tondo’, once hailed by AI as an undoubted Raphael, has been quietly (and correctly) sold at auction as a later copy for Β£13k.

I've no doubt they'll throw a few occurrences of the word 'liminal' in their reporting of the results of said Surveys.

If you’ve been watching the BBC’s Small Prophets, you may have heard about The Birds of America by John James Audubon. Only 120 copies exist today, with one at Liverpool Central Library. We hold the largest group of original Audubon artworks outside North America!

That one of Kerkez making an aeroplane shape in front of the airline ad is a fantastic catch! Love it.

This is a masterclass in the observation of angles and shadows... the angles of the open doors, and the angles of their shadows; the stairs - lit from an unseen window above... the room lit from an unseen window.

And all so accurately painted.
It's just brilliant.

Shame about my typo in the date!

A watercolour of the Waltham Cross

A watercolour of the Waltham Cross

The Waltham Cross is a fantastic example of the early activity of the Society and reflects their dedication to protecting and preserving historical monuments.

This watercolour illustration was a commission by the Society to Jacob Schnebbelie.

Nice!
I was thrilled when it came on! Sounds like plenty of other listeners were too, from their chat about it afterwards.

The great thing about stupidity is that it simultaneously feels endowed with an insight for solutions beyond the reach of the merely intelligent, and the confidence of a minor character in the first twenty minutes of a horror movie.

A little bit of flight history in the local free magazine today, for anyone interested.

Bovingdon airfield is about 3 miles from here, and due to its history during WWII, we're often treated to the old warbirds flying over to pay their respects.

Ah, this makes it clearer, when you can see the Dairy/private residence is top left, above the U shaped former egg farm, and the turbine over on the right. That explains why different bits are visible from different viewpoints in the village.

The energy company website says their building was the Egg Farm, while the Dairy is now a private residence. Thing is, the wind turbine at RES Group/Egg Farm isn't visible when I can clearly see the Dairy. So I need to suss out the site to make sense of it.

I'm not 100% sure if the old Dairy and The Egg Farm are in the same location. The Egg Farm is now the site of a wind turbine and a sustainable energy company.

Until today I was under the impression that they were, based on different views today, now I'm unsure. Must look it up again.

#findsfriday the astonishing, enigmatic Hendy Head from Anglesey now in Oriel MΓ΄n - found in a ploughed field overlooking the Menai straits and thought to be Late Iron Age. Did this Celtic god oversee the a Roman attack on the Druids and an end of the old ways? #celts #ironage #druids #anglesey
