The only thing that's surprising is that they made it till June before an incendiary, public blowout occurred.
Every year @visualcap.bsky.social produces Prediction Consensus, which attempts to foresee how the year will unfold. The easiest possible prediction (imo) was this TrumpβMusk feud that's unfolding right now. www.visualcapitalist.com/prediction-c...
Vancouver definitely is that, and we're all the better for it
@jay.bsky.team A talk so good that you finally got Web Summit using Bluesky!
Canada's VIA Rail logo, designed in 1976 by Burton Kramer. A stylized word VIA
The toronto zoo logo of the 1970s, a stylized deer head with antlers
the Ontario Hydro logo of the 1970s, a stylized electrical plug that spells out OH
The beaver logo of Parks Canada from the mid 1970s
canada's logos and graphic design in the 1970s is what made me a graphic designer. it was just banger after banger
The newest set of ads, which featured people griping about "the general state of things" were more effective than cheesy attack ads, and if they had a couple more months, the polls might've flipped again. The data was trending that way.
In the most simple terms, once the Cons lost the things they were against (Trudeau, Carbon Tax) and Carney came out of the woodwork, they were cooked. Had they pivoted faster, they could've salvaged the election. π¨π¦
There's a lot of hand wringing over what Trump's actual goal here is (if it's not, in fact, about fentanyl).
This is a 78-year-old man with a giant ego and nothing to lose. I think he's dead serious about the 51st state thing. He views "growing the empire" as his legacy.

It's one thing to take drastic action to cut government spending (which a lot of people would agree is needed). It's quite another to do so gleefully. People with a functioning moral compass would approach the job with tact and humility. These are real people's livelihoods; vital services being cut.
These people are wild. It must be liberating to go on social media and just say whatever nasty, divisive thing comes to mind. Cue the clapping sealsβ¦
How should Canada respond to US coercion? I argue it's time to take the initiative.
(It's not the direct focus, but recent Trump-Putin news makes it clear that the sooner we do, the better). macleans.ca/politics/its...
In addition to being callous, this is a foreign policy disaster for the U.S.
Guess who is going to rush in to fill the void? π¨π³
It would be interesting to see how much research they did prior to recent changes. They must have a decent idea of what share of people are truly upset about it.
Speaking from experience, yes. That said, it can be a good inadvertent stress test of how sticky your app is. Bluesky is basically old Twitter, so we know people are motivated to use it despite a bit of friction. They'll def want to fix that soon tho.
Right at the end of the year, but this has to be one of the best data-driven stories of 2024. Fantastic work by @bloomberg.com ππ»
This is one of the most horrific stories I read this year: www.ft.com/content/31b6...
Does Europe have the ability to help Ukraine defeat Russia without US help?
To put it simply, @ianbremmer.com says no.
Read his answers to your questions for @gzeromedia.com:
A lot of people misunderstand what Time's Person of the Year is meant to represent. In their own words, it's "for better or for worse [the person who] has done the most to influence the events of the year". The reality is, the PotY is often going to be a polarising figure.
His invite got lost in the mail
Apparently, nothing lights up the office Slack channels like Fred Durst reacting to the Bank of Canada interest rate cut.
honestly, i feel like it was trudeau's only move

America's number one at-home food category is "Miscellaneous (Sugars, oils, beverages, etc.)". Ouch. See the full breakdown here. @visualcap.bsky.social
When Obama wore the tan suit, it tore the fabric of our reality.
And has your phone's spellcheck adapted to your preferences? That must have been tough at first, lol
How do you feel about PM Trudeau flying down to Mar-a-Lago in response to Trump's tariff threats? A weak move? A smart play? Somewhere in-between?
It's sad to see, but at least clearly the idea of Twitter still resonates with people based on all the activity here.
