The only thing that's surprising is that they made it till June before an incendiary, public blowout occurred.

The newest set of ads, which featured people griping about "the general state of things" were more effective than cheesy attack ads, and if they had a couple more months, the polls might've flipped again. The data was trending that way.

In the most simple terms, once the Cons lost the things they were against (Trudeau, Carbon Tax) and Carney came out of the woodwork, they were cooked. Had they pivoted faster, they could've salvaged the election. πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦

There's a lot of hand wringing over what Trump's actual goal here is (if it's not, in fact, about fentanyl).

This is a 78-year-old man with a giant ego and nothing to lose. I think he's dead serious about the 51st state thing. He views "growing the empire" as his legacy.

It's one thing to take drastic action to cut government spending (which a lot of people would agree is needed). It's quite another to do so gleefully. People with a functioning moral compass would approach the job with tact and humility. These are real people's livelihoods; vital services being cut.

These people are wild. It must be liberating to go on social media and just say whatever nasty, divisive thing comes to mind. Cue the clapping seals…

Canada Lost Its Top Ally. Time to Find New Ones. - Macleans.ca As America abandons a rules-based order, countries must work together to defend global peace. Canada is uniquely positioned to lead that effort.

How should Canada respond to US coercion? I argue it's time to take the initiative.

(It's not the direct focus, but recent Trump-Putin news makes it clear that the sooner we do, the better). macleans.ca/politics/its...

Trump and Musk Bring Vast Aid Machinery to a Halt in Africa The collapse of U.S.A.I.D. at the hands of President Trump and Elon Musk is already leaving gaping holes in vital health care and other services that millions of Africans rely on for their survival.

In addition to being callous, this is a foreign policy disaster for the U.S.

Guess who is going to rush in to fill the void? πŸ‡¨πŸ‡³

It would be interesting to see how much research they did prior to recent changes. They must have a decent idea of what share of people are truly upset about it.

Speaking from experience, yes. That said, it can be a good inadvertent stress test of how sticky your app is. Bluesky is basically old Twitter, so we know people are motivated to use it despite a bit of friction. They'll def want to fix that soon tho.

China’s Population Collapse, Mysterious Drone Sightings, Post-war Ukraine, and more: Your questions, answered China’s demographic problem is massive (And yes, Elon Musk is right to be worried about it). The United Nations estimates China’s population will be roughly cut in half by 2100.

Does Europe have the ability to help Ukraine defeat Russia without US help?

To put it simply, @ianbremmer.com says no.

A lot of people misunderstand what Time's Person of the Year is meant to represent. In their own words, it's "for better or for worse [the person who] has done the most to influence the events of the year". The reality is, the PotY is often going to be a polarising figure.
