Good point! I think the question is down to whether this is newsworthy drama for fans or just typical unsavory business between billionaires. The uncertainty around the situation compels fans to tune into the drama. The GMs may give DeCosta some shit, but it will otherwise be business as usual.
In context of last night, there’s no question that Bam’s point total was illegitimate and that Kobe’s 81 was legit. That said, I can’t stand Kobe’s personality. Rings don’t matter to me. Who you are as a human matters a lot more. The Kobe stand are typically in the “alpha male” crowd. Yuck.
The problem is that certain media figures are reporting that the Ravens reputation is tarnished. While I agree that’s dumb (business is business), it’s hard to argue with because there’s no contrary reports saying it doesn’t matter. People will buy what the media tells them.
Seems like part of the issue is that reporters build their resumes off of these breaking news. It’s the honor rule to not publicly contradict a fellow reporter even if you know their reporting is suspect. This means reporters aren’t competing to give the best info. It’s first come, first serve.

What’s the point of reporting anything if your sources are obviously biased? Journalists should just report transactions after the fact instead of giving faulty info. If anything, the journalists are the scummiest of the whole bunch if they’re just megaphones for agents trying to land big deals.
It sounds really similar to how his agent talked about Maxx in a tweet yesterday. NFL reporting is seriously suspect if they’re going off obviously biased sources.

So apparently I was wrong to give the Ravens the benefit of the doubt especially now that they’re reported to take Trey Hendrickson. Maybe, I should be more cynical. NFL GMs are not as competent as I think they have to be to get the job. Ravens reputation on very shaky ground.

Bam ain't Kobe or Wilt. The points were prob legit in the 1st quarter. After that, it became collusion from everyone to basically just create a record for the sake of creating a record. If I'm Bam, I'd just feel really awkward about the whole thing, like I'm some kind of Make-a-Wish foundation kid.
That's gotta be an officiating issue. The Wizards had 3 steals and 6 blocks. The Heat had 16 steals and 6 blocks. The Wizards fouled 34 times while the Heat fouled 22 times. Could be Bam is a good flopper while the Wizards on-ball defense in the post could be extremely bad.
This is a really smart take. There is a way for everyone to save face without anyone falling on the sword. The Raiders, though, could be looking for blood. They're gonna be desperate to find a team to send Crosby to.
In other words, the Ravens didn't screw anyone over, they just mistakenly believed that Crosby was fine per their specific medical standard. It's a costly mistake that could make negotiations difficult in the future, but not intentional sabotage. They just need to be snappier, that's all.
I disagree that the Ravens are bad-faith actors. I just think they should've done their physical right away. They did the trade Friday. They should've got Crosby on the plane to Baltimore the next day to do the physical and confirm the trade. They waited until Tuesday, thinking he was fine.
Obviously, the Ravens aren't happy. They would love to have Crosby, just not for 2 1st round picks. The Raiders aren't happy because they thought Crosby was as good as gone since Friday and they planned accordingly. The Ravens knew of Crosby's injury/timeline, but maybe not the full extent of it.
As far as the drama goes, the Raiders assumed the Ravens would pass Crosby, because they themselves thought Crosby passed, even if Crosby will have long-term injury issues with his knee (or other undisclosed injuries). The real issue is the Ravens waited until today to do the physical.
Small amendment: Crosby will be 29, not 30. Not too old, but certainly not someone with many years ahead of him, especially if the injury is as bad as the Ravens think it is.
I also don't think Crosby, the Raiders, or the Ravens are necessarily lying. Physicals are subjective, so all 3 disagree.
Obviously, the Raiders won't take anything less than a 2nd/3rd. The only way to make the deal feasible for the Raiders and a different party is for the Raiders to pay the contract while getting a 1st and other picks.
The injury severity complicates it, because it's not just the contract and age. It's the likely possibility that he is not going to be your hero DE who saves the day. He is likely a rotational edge, if his injury is bad as the Ravens think it is. Consequently, he's not even worth a 2nd/3rd.
The probable solution is a trade where they pay for the rest of his contract but a DE-needy team is willing to give up a 1st and some other picks. The issue is that no team would be insane enough to give up a 1st for Crosby. Realistically, he's worth a 2nd or 3rd round pick for his talent and age.
If Crosby stays with the Raiders for the season, he will be 30 years old and from a trade standpoint, basically useless. They're incentivized to get rid of him as quickly as possible. The problem is that gives other team leverage, especially after the failed physical.
It's the reason why I have such a tough time being a fan-alyst of the Packers. The Packers are not the Eagles where if something goes wrong, you can expect ruthless change. I know what good teams look like b/c I study all of the teams. The Packers are consistent, but bleggh from an analytical view.
Yeah, his method is descendant from the prior Packers GMs in the last 20 years or so. They're successful enough that they don't get fired, but not successful enough to win the Super Bowl. The Packers are a team of entertaining mediocrity. The hardcore fans, like us, want a lot more than that.
Basically, I agree with you. They talk about urgency for the next year, but they don't come across that way. The only reason the Packers get away with stuff is because dumber organizations like the Giants, Cowboys, Raiders let their guys go and have zero idea how to build a team.
I believe he takes a wait and see approach to the GM position. You look at the Seahawks and Eagles and how hyper-aggressive their GMs are with trades, contracts, comp picks, and more. Every now and then Gute will actually do something cool like getting Micah, but I hate how he does things.
