#amwriting a historical romance set in the 1790s, a reimagining of The Scarlet Pimpernel. Also a fandom magpie account. Shakespeare, Arthuriana, ASOIAF, etc. AO3: https://archiveofourown.org/users/lareinenoire Tumblr: poorshadowspaintedqueens
Me neither! Which is strange because my characters are constantly talking to themselves so it all seems very clear to me.
I have a running bibliography in Scrivener. Itβs the only way I can keep track of everything. So many great books on the eighteenth century that I hadnβt had the reason/excuse to pick up until now.
I really think beat sheets work best as a general guideline and/or set of examples. Here's how X or Y author did it, see which bits work for you and use them. I can't imagine trying to follow one to the letter; as you say, there comes a point, where it stops feeling like your voice.

Recommended to me by the excellent @elysabethgrace.bsky.social ages ago.
I've been testing out different beat sheets and found one that was romance-specific that I like pretty well. I've taken it and spliced it together with my sort of default five-act arc. Of course, now I'm trying to write the transition from Act 3 to Act 4, which is always the hardest...
I know I said I would but I couldnβt get a good post together. Next time Iβll be able to plan more than 48 hours in advance.
Ooh, sounds like fun!
Going to try #QuestPit for the first time this year with the current WIP. #HistoricalRomance #18thCentury #FrenchRevolution #Neurospicy
Would love suggestions if anyone has them!
Another reminder of #questpit happening this Saturday rather than tomorrow!!
Well done! I'm over here with my Still Untitled Main Project because titles either organically appear or never appear, right?
Never a bad decision! π
Band Sinister is my top choice but Iβm flexible.
Somebody needs to cast Jonathan Bailey in an adaptation of a @kjcharleswriter.com novel.
I wanna invent time travel and then require every high school student to take a class called "All The Shit We Fixed Before You Got Here" where they tour smog-filled US cities, polio wards, pre-vaccine hospitals, buildings with no safety regulations, kids working in mines, etc.
βWhen they rob us of art and emotion, that leads us towards the aesthetics of fascism. In this film, all the sets are real, the decor is human-sized, there are painstakingly created miniatures... Itβs there to remind us that art is not only necessary, it is urgent. And AI can go fuck itself!β
It's actually remarkably easy to not ever use ChatGPT.
Autistic and neurodivergent people deserve far better than a government looking to prevent their existence, let alone one that will invent fictitious ways to do so that puts everyone in danger
if anyone is looking for last-minute gift ideas, I picked a different person from this list to make a small donation for every member of my family & share a little of their story. Molly's thread is an amazing resource with links to vetted fundraisers, many of which need big help to reach big goals

WRITING TIP FOR TODAY
Sale racks at bookstores. I'm dead serious.
Buy reference books when they are practically giving them away and build a little library. I cannot explain the difference between a book and the ENTIRE WEB.
A good reference book will give you a dozen ideas in the first chapter.
I made the mistake of reading an article about the Aaron Sorkin production of Camelot, and all I could think was that I wrote this Henry VI fic ten years ago and it's called Drama Queens. https://archiveofourown.org/works/60608
I'm going to be on @WesterosHistory this Sunday, where I will be either scandalizing or delighting fellow medievalists by comparing "The Testimony of Mushroom" to "The Book of Margery Kempe." Among other things.
NOW COMPLETE: This Palpable Device, aka CSI: Westeros, aka Harwin Strong Solves Crime. Read it at @ao3org here: https://archiveofourown.org/works/43059138 #HouseOfTheDragon #hotd #fanfiction
It's official! As threatened, I have committed #HouseoftheDragon fic. CSI: King's Landing, aka "This Palpable Device". Chapter 1: Harwin Strong is tasked with solving the "murder" of Joffrey Lonmouth.
