CUPE 3903 members showed up today to support students doing a sit-in at York’s Bennett Centre.

Ontario students are facing multiple attacks right now that deserve our attention, from tuition hikes to undermining OSAP grants. Solidarity! ✊

The hotshot clause is meant to be an exception, but recently, departments & Chairs at York are misusing it as a loophole to bypass seniority and incumbency provisions. The original intent is that if someone who is essentially famous (a "hotshot") wants to teach a York class, they can do so despite the usual seniority-based Unit 2 hiring process. Now it's being misused to excuse arbitrary hiring! (12.04.1.i in the Unit 2 Collective Agreement)
