He’s not very fashionable now but Douglas Reeman wrote a good novel about WW2 RN sweepers called In Danger’s Hour.

Maybe if we clog the straits with sunken battleships …
Ontario small towns - two thousand people, four last names.
So friends, let’s pour one out for the late Wiarton Willie, Ontario’s “curious and charismatic” weather-predicting rodent. I’m .. I’m gonna need a minute.

I was amused by the latest @economist.com Checks and Balances podcast where Charlotte Howard and her guests were gently mocking Canadian politeness. Meanwhile a bunch of polite Canadian kids just shattered the hockey record for most penalty minutes given in a game.

That’s very cool. In one of G.R. Elting’s books he describes how his experience with horse-drawn artillery in the US Army on exercise out west on the 1920s helped him understand Napoleonic warfare.
I should read that trilogy someday. I remember quite enjoying his Seven Men of Gascony.
The Chaplains School needs you.
Having a “strategic map” assumes that there’s a strategy.
Boozers and cathedrals are the only reason why I visit GB really
Today’s used bookstore find on Canadian fast small boats at war. Definitely interested in getting @thomasbrandstetter.bsky.social ‘s Torpedoes and Tides rules and some wee boats. Bless @4ppress.bsky.social for pointing me to some nice STLs.

Ditto!
More men need to hear this, TBH.
I’ve just started reading it, full of interesting characters. The first few weeks are basically groping blindly, running from contact, shooting at lighthouses and bonking into rocks. Great stuff.
Not sure what a Pepco is but I think the suggestions about going to an art store are good. FWIW I’m a dude and I don’t much like DIY stores either.
I think i remember that one, she was the tough as nails freighter captain. Great role for her.
These are not serious people.
It’s amazing film. That he was able to shoehorn Lady Macbeth into a retelling of Hamlet is truly an epic (and bonkers) achievement.
Lovely stuff!
I love that his hardhat stays in place throughout.
Congratulations!
Best to Madame.
Brilliant work! Quite like that.
A lead soldier, wiping his brow. He wears a tan leather apron, white cross belts over a blue and red coat, a rifle on his bag and an axe in his hand. He wears a tall metal hat called a mitre because he is a grenadier.
A metal figure of a man in 18th century dress wearing a green coat on a crutch because he has a wooden leg. He wears a white neckerchief and is waving a three cornered hat in the air.
Two painted models. A blond girl in 18th century dress selling apples offers one to a soldier. She wears a white apron and carries a whicker basket. She wears a blue coat with light blue cuffs and trim as if she is a soldier and a man’s tricorn had to show that she is a camp follower.
The same girl selling apples seen from Behind, she has long blond hair loosely tied and her apron strings hang down over a dark blue skirt.
Some more SYW 28mm Foundry figures; I love painting these vignette figures to enliven the wargames table. Gustav the tired pioneer, Ferdinand who would give his other leg for Der Alte Fritz if he could, and Magda the camp follower. All painted using Foundry triad paints.
18 lead toy soldiers against a green background. They are wearing red and blue coats with white trousers and black leggings and depict Prussian grenadiers of the Seven Years War.
Newly finished SYW 28mm Foundry Prussian grenadiers. These are painted as the Anhalt Desau companies of the 3/6 Von Kleist converged grenadier battalion. Their comrades from the von Retzow companies are still in the painting queue.
I just resd that for the first time. Got quite teary. Lovely stuff.
I had wondered if that was an authorized thing or maybe Herr Skipper just wanted to unload his last fish and go home.
Still waiting for someone to unleash Madame Chang. 😏
“I would have condemned him to death in my secret trial if it wasn’t for you meddling kids!”
Jeeze Louise don’t let @4ppress.bsky.social see this thread! 😏
