Western views of slavery in the Islamic world
Well, the easy and correct answer is that, prior to roughly 1700, there was essentially no objection to slavery as an institution. There was objection to mistreatment or enslaving the 'wrong' people, but not to slavery per se. So it was normal to condemn oppression or mistreatment but not slavery.
