Canada has advanced to the WBC quarterfinals for the first time
James Paxton masterclass
Owen Caissie has been incredible for Canada
I am aware I replied to Brent saying this already but I cannot stress enough:
dudes rock
Houston and Miami better start stocking up
Canadian baseball fans absolutely crushing canned beers at the Canada-Cuba WBC game
Hell yeah
It's going to be quite the visual with Netflix taking over McCovey Cove for the Opening Day matchup between the Giants and Yankees.

There's a very real chance that Canada and Italy advance out of pool play but the United States does not.
That'd be a wild outcome.
I guess I mean if Kobe was in the same situation to surpass someone with 81 points, he wouldβve absolutely blown past it and crapped on this take.
Also, do we really think that Kobe freakinβ Bryant of all people would agree with this take? What are we doing here?
I know this is a tabloid-y article designed to generate clicks and arguments but Iβm still trying to process *this* being your take after a historic performance.
If you canβt enjoy an 83-point performance and cover that appropriately, maybe youβre in the wrong field!
βI misspokeβ¦ Completely misread the calculations.β
Manager Mark DeRosa confirms he did not know Team USA could still be eliminated during pool play

USA to quarters if Italy beats Mexico
If Mexico beats Italy, a 3-way tie, all 1-1 vs. others. next tiebreaker: runs allowed / def. outs
USA 11 R/54 outs (.2037)
Mexico 5 R/24 outs (.2083)
Italy 6 R/27 outs (.2222)
Mexico wins 9-inning game w/1-4 runs, USA is out
Mex. win with 5+ runs, Italy out
Italy beats the USA 8-6
What's at stake in the World Baseball Classic tomorrow:
POOL A: Winner of Canada-Cuba advances
POOL B: If Italy wins, it'll be Italy and the US advancing to the quarterfinals. If Mexico wins, it's a three-way tie and tiebreaker chaos
POOL D: Winner of DR-Venezuela plays Korea. Loser plays Japan
Inarticulate Italian noises
Italy beats the US 8-6. An absolute stunner.
If DeRosa really thought the US already clinched a spot in the quarterfinals, it makes more sense why he had Clayton Kershaw warming up in tonight's game.
With every run allowed mattering for the tiebreaker, the decision to use Kershaw in mop-up time could have had massive consequences.
βItβs weird. We want to win this game even though our ticketβs punched to the quarterfinals," Team USA manager Mark DeRosa on MLB Network earlier today.
Obviously, the US has very much NOT clinched anything yet, especially after the potential outcome of this game.

Between the WBC and Spring Training, Jac Caglianone has looked awesome.
Itβd absolutely rule to see him break out this season. And itβd make the AL Central MUCH more interesting.
PCA just made this game a hell of a lot more interesting
Canada beats Puerto Rico 3-2.
With a win tomorrow, Canada not only will advance to their first WBC quarterfinals -- they'd also secure the top spot in Pool A and would face the runner-up of Pool B on Saturday.
With a loss, Canada's journey would end.
"It's a mess right now for the Americans" is applicable for this baseball game and literally everything else happening in America at the moment.
We're about to have so much WBC chaos tomorrow lol
Michael Lorenzen tossing 4 2/3 scoreless innings against the US lineup is absolutely badass.
His reward is getting to pitch half of his games at Coors Field in the regular season.
Jac Caglianone hammers one out to make it 5-0 Italy
Is .... the US going to lose this game?
ayyyyyy, we're sluggin' here
Italy was NOT impressed with McLean's stuff in the second inning. Damn!
Nolan McLeanβs stuff is straight out of a pitching lab. Absolute filth.
