Also i feel like people don’t realize that a lot of their bias for things like third person pov over first person pov probably stems from how much fanfic they read lmao

I feel like people make fun of tiktok’s weird armchair psychology or whatever but then don’t sit down for 2 seconds and consider if “people who self insert are incapable of reading diverse books” is a weird generalization to make about a very normal and common thing

Like making these random moral judgments of others based off of do they prefer first person pov or do you self insert into books or do you mostly like romance and happy endings is so fucking crazy and idk why we pretend like this is normal to do

I’ll never understand the “imagining yourself as the mc of a story is bad” discourse because “if you self insert you’re probably low empathy” feels like a much more insane and troubling conclusion to draw about strangers than like the threat of someone reading a book for fun.
