There's no excuse for ProPublica's position on this issue. We need a fair contract, with real job security and GAI guardrails, now!
Additionally, management struck out:
1️⃣ Language that would prevent GAI from producing editorial work
2️⃣ A requirement that AI-generated content be clearly labeled and reviewed by human editors
It's simple — @propublica.org workers should not be replaced by artificial intelligence. Our contract proposal specifically says that generative artificial intelligence ("GAI") should not be used to replace employees. Management struck out this entire section in their response to our proposal.

NEW: LA Times journalists (@latguild.bsky.social) approved a new contract after three years of hard-fought negotiations.
Under the deal, which covers more than 200 Guild members, every newsroom worker will receive a raise of at least $3,000 in the first year.
