Altogether we propose that reversing apneas is key to successful poly-drug overdose rescue
Dependence to fentanyl led to some tolerance to fentanyl and fentanyl + alcohol while alcohol dependence made apneas worse during the drug challenges
Binge-level does of alcohol worsens the respiratory depression caused by fentanyl and lead to severe apnea that is not fully reversed by naloxone
We found that high doses of alcohol combined with fentanyl leads to ~40% mortality in rats
