OOOOHHH! What a tantalising peek!
Work in progress just passed the 25K words mark, which always feels like an important milestone.
Loving it. I am trying to make it last! I don't normally 'do' anything fantastical but I do like a good timeslip. I love how you make us know and love your characters so quickly.
Yes! We just did! Nice to see you on here! It's definitely worth more than 99p! Hope you enjoy it!
Mrs Hart's Marriage Bureau is a teeny-weeny 99p on kindle for the month of February! Feminist, feelgood, historical fiction. @harpercollins.bsky.social @romanticnovelists.bsky.social
For everyone who has enjoyed FIRST TERM AT FERNSIDE and has asked about a sequel ... I have just this minute pressed 'SEND' on Fernside 2! More details to come when I'm allowed! @theobrienpress.bsky.social
Love these books!
With two/more POVs tend to write in a linear way, changing viewpoint for a chapter at a time. I tend not to like books where we get the same scene from two different POVs (unless that's the whole point, of course!) as it can slow the narrative, so I like to keep forward momentum.
If you'd like to support your fave authors in 2025 but you're skint, you could:
- make a social media post about the book, just as basic as "i enjoyed this" and a picture (don't forget alt-text)
- rec it in a relevant reddit thread or Goodreads forum or Facebook group
Word of mouth has an impact!
This is my life too. Well, one dog is almost always silent, one almost never.
The background image shows 3 children crowded around a copy of 'The Hare-Shaped Hole'. They are sitting outside and smiling at the book.

I've sometimes done an exercise (as a writing tutor) where you write the final scene first -- of course things will change a lot, but it does give you something to work towards and is surprisingly helpful. Good luck!
a moody January sky with bare trees and some dead leaves clinging to a barbed wire fence.
It was all looking a bit sedge-has-withered-from-the-lake-and-no-birds-singish today at Springhill, which is about the only place the dogs and I can get to in this weather, local roads being too treacherous to walk on. Though in fact there isn't a lake, and a rather jolly robin followed us around.
They are destructive all right -- our dogs are the same. But worth it!
Me too for all its faults-of-its-time. There was a good adaptation on R4 (or possibly 4 Extra) a year or so ago that I remember enjoying. And absolutely, reading MDV at about 14 was perfect -- I had crushes on Mark AND Leo!
You too!
It's awful, isn't it? I am in a few private FB groups that I would really miss, and I do enjoy Instagram. I left Twitter a long time ago. Not sure what to do. Maybe social media has had its day -- except if all the sensible people leave, it's much easier for the lunatics to take over the asylum.
Don't know how I missed this, but how wonderful!
Thank you for a very entertaining listen! I loved the reminder of Lynne Reid Banks' My Darling Villain, the first YA I ever read back in the 80s, and a longstanding favourite. I did an author event with LRB about ten years ago and she was extremely formidable and wonderful.
I've deleted my FB author page as it had become redundant, so one of my NY resolutions is to make proper use of this place instead. And of course you can find me on my website, www.sheenawilkinson.com and on Instagram. In the meantime, here's Lough Neagh a minute before it started sleeting just now.
Excellent! I have long wanted to try her, but genuinely wouldn't have known where to start. Thank you!
There is one... written and edited and ready to go ... Sadly there isn't a publishing deal for it. But I vow to find a way to bring it to readers in 2025 so keep watching!
Nudging!
What an honour to kick off @emmapassauthor.bsky.social #BookAdvent with Mrs Hart's Marriage Bureau! It's a cosy read, so perfect for this time of year!
Thank you so much! What a honour to kick off your #BookAdvent!
I adore Gladstone's -- one of the most civilised places in the country/world.
I second Annaghmakerrig! I have been going since 2008 and it is a very special place. Definitely won't be warm in January -- well, the house and welcome will be, but the lake won't! I'm going in mid-December; can't wait!
