I set out in Unreal to light a quiet shrine at dusk, balancing cinematic contrast with a dreamy, whimsical feel. Focusing on purples and glows pushed me to capture the perfect mood.

I feel like a lot of initial concepts tend to go something very heavy on the rims and stylized so I consciously opted for something a bit softer and natural.
My regret though when trying to match a shot from Memoirs of a Geisha as all that indirect was so difficult

For this week’s assignment, I wanted to go for something that, while set during the day, still felt misty and mysterious. My main reference was Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, especially the way it uses atmosphere and light shafts to build a sense of adventure and discovery.

Well, this week's homework specifically asked to do a night time scene so I guess here I am lighting in the dark again for the 3rd week in a row.

The regret when you think you have a cool idea of wanting to light this place up like the inn from Spirited Away but it turns into a lot a lot of work and I'm exhausted placing so many lights. If only I had figured out blueprints at this time

Week 2 of my lighting in Unreal class

Since I had recently watched the new Until Dawn movie I was thinking about the original game as well as the movie Cabin in the Woods as my references

I figured out how to make a fun little shader network that creates a mask that is distanced based on the camera so that I could desat and decrease the contrast the background in the PPV

Since I have a bit of some extra time I decided to take that CGMA Lighting for Unreal class

First week's assignment was just to light this scene and play around in it.

Congrats to everyone who worked on this beautiful film! It was a dream and a highlight of my career to be a part of the team to bring this movie to life 🤖
