To be honest, I wonder if they are actually talking about prediction modeling or if they are using sloppy language to talk about descriptive assocations or causal effects.

I am always proud of my Dad, for my teaching me my values and for challenging us to stand up for them. In his words,"Opposing immigration enforcement tactics that undermine human dignity and constitutional protections is one way we can live these values."

I am one of the lucky ones. I found a postdoc positions Netherlands., where I am growing as a scientist and as a person. Many of my colleagues have not been as lucky. Scientific careers are being derailed or are outright ending. The harm to American science, and scientists, will be irreparable. 3/3
My decision came after an agonizing year: Data were disappearing, grants were terminated, all of the postdocs on my T32 were told they would be laid off, my mentor was scraping together funding to keep me employed on the team, and the future was uncertain. No one knew what was coming next. 2/3
Grateful for the Boston Globe is shining a light on how the Trump administration's actions are disrupting science. When I first spoke to them five months ago, I had just made the life changing decision to quit my job at Harvard and move across the globe for a postdoc position in the Netherlands. 1/3
Wow. This is devastating.

A reminder to the news media: βconflicting accountsβ is what you say BEFORE the incontrovertible video evidence appears. After that, your job is to ask why one side is lying, not to repeat the lie and pretend no one knows the truth.
Don't come to America for the World Cup, the Olympics, personal or professional travel. Our own citizens aren't safe, don't risk your safety. Don't legitimize what's happening with your presence. Don't bring your money into the American economy.
This kind of journalism lacks all integrity. It is deceitful to put one narrative backed by multiple camera angles and another narrative comprised of baseless lies on equal footing. Journalists need to report the uncomfortable truth that the American government has gone off the rails
Itβs almost as if the Second Amendment is only for Republicans?
You canβt βwe need our gunsβ your way to perpetuating school shootings while βhe had a gunβ your way to justifying public executions.

If you haven't called your representatives, if you haven't joined a protest, if you aren't organizing in some way, what will it take?
The future of our country and our fundamental freedoms are at stake.
The most American, patriotic, thing you can do is oppose tyranny.
Are you or a loved one LGBTQ+? Or does your work serve LGBTQ+ communities? Take this Survey from The Cancer Network and share how this past year has impacted you! I took it and am looking forward to seeing how the data can and will be used to advocate for our community.
The democratic collapse of my country is making it hard to focus on the collapse of my profession
You can do this right now:
Think of a person who wrote a paper you love, whose work influenced or helped you, or has made your professional life better.
Search up their email address. Shoot them a quick email of thanks. It means so, so much. This is a rough time of year, share some joy.
As a @hsph.harvard.edu alum, I am shocked and disappointed by the firing of Dr. Mary Bassett from @fxbharvard.bsky.social. Now is the time to support courageous leaders championing human rights and anti-racism. Where is the academic freedom crowd now?Sign the petion to support her reinstatement.
Such an important piece highlighting the impacts of recent events on trans and nb researchers. We are at risk of losing lot of incredible talent from the academic pipeline. The ripple effects will be felt for decades.
However, <6% of the variability in ED diagnosis was due to intersectional interactions between dimensions of identity.
Mentoring and teaching are among the greatest privileges I have as an academic. I am so pleased to see Nick's hard work come to fruition with this publication! 3/3
With data from the American College Health Association, we estimated the prevalence of eating disorders across gender identity, sexual orientation, race/ethnicity, and parental education (as a marker of SES). We found striking differences in ED prevalence across groups (0.4 to 19%) 2/3
Happy to share a new paper from one of my mentees, Nick Andrysiak: www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

Is Larry Summers Ruining the Workplace? Yes
- By Elizabeth Warren
After months of stress and uncertainty, I recently moved 3,500 miles across the Atlantic ocean to a university that could offer more stability at this stage in my career. Many of my colleagues do not have the same option. I worry about the long term impacts on ECRs and the field.
I deeply appreciate this new piece by two friends, Dougie Zubizarreta & @albeccia.bsky.social, on the potential impacts of attacks on LGBTQ+ health on research and ECRs.
