DJT is very sick, & Canada should take these expansionist fantasies seriously. I'm just amazed that there is apparently nothing he can do - deeply offensive, outright criminal, or abjectly incompetent - that will trigger his removal from the presidency. The tolerance is breathtaking.

I suffered from extreme respiratory distress for the first couple of years of my (still ongoing) #LongCOVID. I tried every breathing exercise there was. I still felt like I was suffocating, & my hands & lips remained cyanotic.

Up until then, I had given up on ever riding a bike again. Given up on a very old love.

Because in March 2020, #LongCOVID destroyed my quadriceps, & riding a bike became painfully impossible. It also caused my (still undiagnosed) atrial fibrillation to spike horribly.

I still remember the day I overcame my misgivings about e-bikes, got one, & found myself flying through the air, suffused with joy, reclaiming a little of what I had lost -

Long Covid Awareness Day is not only about recognition β€” it’s about prevention.

Covid infections are not inevitable. Clean indoor air and better protections can reduce risk.

My child and I both have Long COVID. Even in COVID-aware spaces, we are excluded because of their pre-existing disability. When the pandemic began, we had already been isolated for nearly five years due to my child's low seizure threshold, compromised immune system, and airway restriction.

"No one cared."

"Medical facilities have handled Long COVID the same way they have the ongoing pandemic: ignore it and hope it goes away."

"[W]e must continue to pressure medical institutions to require N95 masks and HEPA filtration."

"The real lesson from South Africa is that a police state wounds the people it claims to protect.

A society that targets newspapers, universities, migrants and protesters ultimately makes its supporters’ lives miserable, too".

But in my years in South Africa, living in rural Afrikaner towns as well as in cities, I’ve heard much more about the shock white South Africans felt at how warmly their neighbors and colleagues of color have treated them than I’ve heard complaints about the opposite".

"That seems hard for people who never experienced such a total upending of a political hierarchy to understand.

But while Faigenbaum is the most prominent scientist to have leveraged AI in this way, others are already making breakthroughs. At Harvard Medical School, an AI model found nearly 8,000 approved drugs that could potentially be repurposed to treat 17,000 different diseases.

In 2022, Fajgenbaum set up a nonprofit called #EveryCure, using machine learning to compare thousands of drugs against thousands of diseases. The most promising are tested in laboratories or sent to doctors who are willing to experiment.

Because up until now, medical travellers from the #Yukon were often supplied with these lanyards in Vancouver hospitals, only to travel back to an airport staffed by people who didn't know what they meant.
