a problem for me with dwj vs kirkman's writing is that even when i didn't vibe with it, i felt like dwj had a clear grasp on where he was going and what his characters were like. under kirkman even a character like ultra magnus, whose arc is pretty straight-forward, is kinda... floppy.

i think this is a fair point! but even if i trusted kirkman's writing to explore that i'm not sure i'd want elita to be at the center of a story deconstructing the matrix, as an already controversial female character being set up to fail, as you say.

ok i'm gonna shut up i hate having opinions in public (joke) (but i WILL have to wait to reply until morning because i'm falling asleep and bsky is taking a literal minute to send my posts)

also i really don't want to glaze dwj too hard but it also cracks me up how consistently his B covers are both more interesting composition-wise and more in tune with character relationships than the standard A covers. like come onnnn

would be very excited about the aerialbots staying on earth and bonding with thundercracker so he can be superion's new arm if i thought they were gonna get any characterisation outside of that.

i don't think dwj's run was perfect but it's wiiiild to see how far kirkman's is getting from its thematic core(unless we're about to see a serious re-examination of the matrix's role in the tf canon), and also just. shockingly transparent how the characters are used to get from point a to point b.
