It heckin' WIMDY
I wish America would learn about longer than bi-articulated trams so that there isn't a bunch of wasted space with unused cabs for high ridership light rail services. Seattle Link should not need 4 separate vehicles coupled together. Wastes a ton of potential passenger space.
you could call it giving America a jesus complex. "I carry the entire weight of sin in the world so that no one else has to." The world won't be free of terrible things even if America is gone
This is a bit stupid but related to my thread - Some people are so horrendously online that their takes make me sick to even be on the same side of the political spectrum as them. I can't even imagine what Joe Blow on the street would think when they see some of the takes that float around.
My home state of Kentucky had a Dem majority in the state senate until 2002 ane state house until 2016. Now Dems in the state legislature are powerless. This is a direct consequence of the state Dem party being defunded in the 2000s.
Dems should try running candidates in the roughly 2/3 of downballot seats in state legislatures and local positions that are uncontested Republican.
So far Dem leadership has decided to blame the Woke Transgenders for their woes. If that holds, say hi to President JD Vance. Maybe Tim Walz or Sherrod Brown as DNC Chair could repeat a Howard Dean 50 State Strategy, in which case we have an actual chance.
In the 50 State Strategy, Dems did work in both their typical states AND states where they probably wouldn't actually win presidentially, but could win a lot in downballot races. Republicans understand the immense power of state legislatures and other lower level positions, current Dems do not.
How did Dems get 60 senators in 08? They won over some rural places and the working class, as well as minority voters and young people. They didn't berate people, instead they offered a message of hope and change, literally.
With the economy about to fall apart due to the tariffs and mass deportations, Dems have a chance to repeat 2006 and 2008, but only if they have vision. Howard Dean chaired the DNC after 2004 and implemented the 50 State Strategy
If things continued as normal, Trump would have won in 2020 with the popular vote and maybe Dems would have had a chance in 2024.
IMO, Biden's win in 2020 was a total fluke due to COVID hitting and also because Biden in 2020 was actually more like Obama 08 than he was like Hillary 2016 or Harris 2024. He was at least mildly progressive instead of a crappy centrist who you could mistake for John Kasich.
You don't win over people who operate like this by warning them about fascism or human rights violations. They value gas prices over human rights, and the neoliberal capitalist state we are in brought us to that situation.
The majority of voters do not care if people like us live or die, do not care if what Trump proposes is actually feasible, and do not care what crazy thing a politician said today. They only care about what their grocery bill is and what the number on the pump is.
It is a MIRACLE that Dems only faced a John Kerry 2004 level loss, considering Biden's internal polling had him losing a 400 electoral vote landslide akin to 1988 or even a Reagan election.
I'm going to post a flaming hot political take so be warned:
The 2024 election loss was the inevitable result of Democrats abandoning working class and rural voters, and attempting to lure in Mitt Romney fans instead, and if they don't learn from this, Democrats will not win elections again.
urbanism takes a backseat when you lose your basic human rights
Yeah I really like the case. It's geometrically constrained to put it lightly but the design does the absolute most possible with it. Case is built well so it should last for years
I'm going to dual boot Windows and Linux because I do still need Windows for my iTunes library (for my iPod Classic). Recommendations for debloated Windows and user-friendly Linux are welcome. So far my idea is W10 IoT edition (support to 2032) + regular Ubuntu
My specs will be
- Ryzen 5 7600X
- Thermalright low profile cooler
- 32 GB DDR5 6000
- 2 TB Smasnug 990 Evo PCIe 5 NVMe
- 1 TB Crucial PCIe 4 NVMe because Newegg threw it in for free
- Probably eventually a WD Blue 4 TB laptop HDD for data storage
- Coolermaster SFX PSU
- Used AMD RX 6600 XT

Going to build a new PC for the first time in 10 years! Saw the Fractal Terra Jade at Microcenter and knew I wanted something small right off the bat. Unfortunately I have to build the PC now because the tariffs are going to make electronics way more expensive...

My Molar Mac post seemed well liked so here's another machine. This is my 12" PowerBook G4, with a 1.5 GHz PowerPC G4 and 1.25 GB RAM. I've installed Sorbet Leopard onto it to get newer programs. Yes, the battery does work for an hour or two!
no, just one. The internal one is actually a blanking plate with no drive in it
Castlewood ORB drive with Bondi Blue shell
Castlewood ORB 2.2 GB cartridge
This is the Castlewood ORB drive. It's a hard drive platter based removable cartridge format for data storage and backup. It competed with the more popular SyQuest (literally the same technology) and Iomega Jaz format
Power Mac G3 All in One running Mac OS 9, with Iomega ZIP, Jaz, and Castlewood Orb drives to the right.
Playing with the Molar Mac today. I think I might have a penchant for obsolete 1990s storage formats...
Iβm looking at centrist Dems running scared and hurling trans people under the bus with alacrity, and then I think of LBJ saying βthis will lose us the south for a generationβ and signing the Civil Rights Act anyway, and I think βyou fuckers donβt even measure up to *LBJ*β
Breaks my heart to see $10bn in transit funding toβ¦rebuild one bus terminal. This is regional rail-level money, the kind of money that should dramatically improve commutes, not cement shitty ones in place. Wish this was going to something like this instead: pedestrianobservations.com/2019/05/29/a...
