There were multiple hazmat emergency vehicles around Grandview Park this afternoon. Iβd love to know why.

Text: "With preventative practices, the spread of both can be reduced! Liz Duck-Chong demonstrates how we can apply STI prevention practices to reduce the spread of COVID. Read now at Scarleteen," alongside a person wearing a mask.
We know it's important to take serious precautions when it comes to STI prevention. What if we did the same for COVID? @lizduckchong.bsky.social explores what that might look like: www.scarleteen.com/read/what-...
They are still free in BC, but no one seems to know for how much longer.
Such a waste of your time. Every pharmacy should have them readily available. This map at least narrows down which pharmacies still have the free Artron COVID rapid tests. Good idea to call ahead to make sure they are not out of stock currently.

Mask up friends. Washing your hands is such a good idea, but it wonβt prevent airborne viruses like COVID, influenza, or measles from entering your body when you breathe. π·
Unbearably beautiful, indeed. Thank you Karen.

Theres a protest at their offices on Friday next week (30th) - 3-5pm

I came to Minneapolis to report on what's going on, and one of the main questions I showed up with is "just what is the scale of the resistance?" After all, we're all used to the news calling Portland a "war zone" or whatever when it's just some protests in one part of town.
Screenshot of a social media post from Angela Sterritt: Meanwhile in Canada. This is horrendously cruel and needs to be stopped Please help it you can (share widely and attend). Trigger Warning: Residential School denial, intergenerational trauma Tomorrow, Thursday, January 22 at 10:30 a.m., individuals known for denying the history and harms of Indian Residential Schools are planning a protest at the Indigenous Residential School History and Dialogue Centre on the UBC Vancouver campus. (This is particularly cruel). This is not academic disagreement. It is an act of denial that causes real harm to Survivors, their families, and communities. Indian Residential Schools were real. The violence was real. Children died. The trauma continues.
Indian Residential Schools were real. The violence was real. Children died. The trauma continues. In response, community members are gathering not to debate, but to protect, bear witness, and care for our loved ones. A drum circle will be held as a peaceful, grounded presence. We are asking those who are able to: β’ Wear an orange shirt β’ Stand in solidarity β’ Join the circle as peacekeepers and speakers β’ Center Survivors and families in your presence Your being there matters. Presence is a form of care. Taking a stand and speaking out is imperative in these times. If you cannot attend, please share this message, hold Survivors in your thoughts, and speak truth where you are.
Residential school deniers will be speaking outside the Indigenous Residential School History and Dialogue Centre at UBC tomorrow.
As Angela says about this cruel event: βThis is not academic disagreement. It is an act of denial that causes real harm to Survivors, their families, and communities.β
Respectfully Jon Stewart, you were wrong on the @weeklyshowpodcast.bsky.social to mock people who mask. ICYMI: there are tens of millions of Americans who have been disabled by #LongCOVID and must do everything in their power to prevent further infections that make them vulnerable to further

It was reprehensible when people mocked condom usage at the height of the AIDS pandemic.
It is just as depraved to mock those wearing masks to reduce the spread of airborne viruses today.
Whenever someone takes any kind of step to protect public health, they should be applauded, not mocked.
Israel is still doing genocide.
βSevere weather conditions are bringing further misery to displaced Palestinians in Gaza, who have already suffered relentless bombardment, siege and loss in Israelβs genocidal war for more than two years, as Israel continues to block critical shelter and aid supplies into the territory.β
The College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC will have up to date information in the Registrant Directory for any of the doctors you saw at the clinic recently, if they are still practising in BC.

So pretty! And do I spy the aforementioned rose petals?!
Ignoring the impact of COVID, especially on structurally disadvantaged people is just as bad as ignoring AIDS.
The best way to keep us all safe is to wear a mask in public. You could save a life friends.
My hand, palm up, against a background of clover, holding a beaded pin with the red AIDS ribbon design. It was made by Grandmothers in South Africa who are caring for their HIV + families.
I lost my Dad to AIDS.
If we had learned lessons from that pandemic about how to keep structurally marginalized folks safe & alive, could we have prevented the massive & ongoing scale of death & long term disability caused by COVID-19?
Sticky toffee pudding! Or, in the dark dense category, may I suggest panforte? I made it for the first time last Christmas, and itβs delicious. Itβs the medieval Tuscan OG power bar.

I couldnβt find hoba anywhere in Vancouver, and when testing you need to follow the recipe exactly! Fukuya in Richmond kindly ordered some from Japan. They were about $20 for 10 very large magnolia leaves. I also harvested & dried local magnolia leaves, Iβm curious to see how they compare.
I was a recipe tester for Emiko Daviesβ latest cookbook The Japanese Pantry. I was so intrigued by the hoba miso recipe, because all our magnolias were blooming at the time. The hoba imparts a truly incomparable scent. Itβs one of my favourite things to eat. www.emikodavies.com/cookbooks/

Our new favourite tea, from the Sun Yat Sen Garden gift shop, is a blend of rose petals, lemongrass, and camomile. Rose petals are really nice in most kinds of tea!
The teenager here made rose simple syrup, and uses it in matcha. The flavours complement each other really nicely.
The City of Vancouver Coat of Arms halloween costume definitely gave me false hope. I figured if they could pull that off, they could figure out a coordinated set of candidates, and rally around a Mayor.

So ecxited that this article is finally out! When Olivia reached out to share her horror story on getting her wheelchair repaired my jaw was on the floor. The floor! Turns out her story isn't unique.
We get into it in this two-part series for @thetyee.ca
