Years of house hunting in Auckland showed me that Aaron Drever was a smarmy wee git long before any criminal charges, but it wasn’t surprising to hear he’d done wrong. And keeps doing it. What IS surprising is how much catering companies pay. Is this normal?!

Genuine question, how do you think Fonterra is driving this? To me the council itself is the one continuing to grant permits to dairy farms despite knowing the state of the water, so responsibility surely lies with them? They could just stop consenting more cows!

Hey David Seymour, Kiwis *are* clicking like mad on stories about the death of CK, but not because we approved of or even knew who he was, but because it’s another flashpoint in the transformation of an ally that we are watching in horror and dismay. The last clause of this screen grabπŸ‘‡πŸ˜©

Infant death rate

Infant death rate

I want to expression my unequivocal concern & alarm as I've noticed the NZ rolling 12 month infant mortality rate has gone up dramatically since Quarter 2 2024.
(Anyone can replicate this by downloading the deaths for year ending by age data from infoshare, and the mean year population (quarterly))

That’s a crazy jump. Highest in 25 years all of a sudden. Wonder if it’s the flu or cold (electricity price correlation?). Did anything change in the way deaths were coded or reported?

Absolutely devastating news about Tom Phillips. Not to condone his actions at all, but losing their father has got to be the worst possible outcome for those kids.

NCEA changes: Emails show Labour shunned offers for briefings ahead of scrapping Labour only contacted minister a little over a week before the changes were announced.

This is super disappointing β€” in this cess pit high-polarisation world why would any decent politician not take the opportunity to influence change that affects our kids, so it has the chance to be bipartisan and stable? 🀬

No suit, no experience, no jargon: Rotorua's novel job ad for $166k-a-year gig Could you be one of the 'everyday legends' Rotorua seeks? FYI – there's a catch.

This is very clever comms. Well done Rotorua council!

Love it! I’ve heard something like 6-10% of rams are gay and refuse to breed with sheep, is this true?

1. Thoughts are with Minnesotans right now. A brave show of force in an unbelievably scary time.

2. I really hope someone at the Minnesota protest has a purple sign that says "No Kings, Only Prince"

What's the carbon footprint of using ChatGPT? Very small compared to most of the other stuff you do.

In case you are beating yourself up over the carbon emissions of using AI, don't. There are plenty of other things to beat yourself up over first (GHG-wise).... interesting read: www.sustainabilitybynumbers.com/p/carbon-foo...

With so many parties β€˜ruling out’ working with other parties, is MMP losing itsΒ way? Part of the appeal of MMP was that it might constrain some of the worst excesses of the executive. Right now, that is starting to look a little naive.

It’s a fantasy but I’m starting to feel the best possible result for the next NZ election is a Labour-National coalition where they spend 3 yrs making bipartisan decisions on things like # civil servants, max/min $ national debt, so we can stope this relentless & wasteful bloat-decimate cycle #nzpol

Priest took own life after his 'generous and trusting nature' was exploited A coroner found Father Geoff Gray made around $40,000 in payments to various people in Bolivia and America.

Sharing this in hopes that it reaches Father Geoff's 'adopted son' in Bolivia and makes him feel like an absolute sack of shit. www.stuff.co.nz/nz-news/3606...

The β€˜disruption’ was by ELECTED representatives not an angry mob. No violence, no weapons, no breach of security, no attempt to overthrow an election. A cultural protest by elected members of parliament. Wanna compare lamingtons and American football next?

Not sure if this is a genuine question, but it's nice here, family and friends are here and I have a nice life and home? And there is an election quite soon? Agree it's a frustrating turn of the political screw, but does anyone believe it's permanent? Why would you leave over a political fart?

How Taranaki's dairy effluent debate reached rare consensus Taranaki has 277 farms with consent to discharge effluent into waterways.

News: Politicians set aside archaic Victorian (?) debating rules, have actual conversation, find they actually unanimously agree and can finally make progress. Bloody well done Taranaki Regional Council, but why can't all politics be like this? www.nzherald.co.nz/whanganui-ch...

I guess in that case you first raised the topic of high school yourself? I suppose if I went around mentioning I went to high school here people might talk to me about that since I’ve brought it up. But if it doesn’t come up I’ve found no one raises it. Mind you I’m 49 so maybe an age thing too.
