On the one-year anniversary of his detention by federal authorities, New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani and First Lady Rama Duwaji welcomed Mahmoud Khalil, his wife Noor, and their baby boy, Deen, to Gracie Mansion to break the fast together.
What the fuck did I just read
For Ansel 100%
Give him another 14 of ‘em, each one holds a different feeling
Pet grief is as overwhelming as any other kind of intense grief, it’s really understandable and I’m so sorry for your loss ❤️
Thanks! I'm having a lot of fun working on this one
I just realized I need to draw an additional sketch that's compatible with Patreon's native feed settings lmao whoops, well,
Hustling on drafting this HOTBLOOD(ttrpg) character playbook to get it out by the end of the day. My favorite part so far is giving the standard "what are your pronouns" question thematically relevant story and character implications, I'm going to try to keep that in the other playbooks too
Everyone should commemorate March 9th every year by going out and ordering the most elaborate café drink in honor of Prof. Grygiel, let that be his legacy to the world
This op-ed is just a gift that keeps on giving
Imagine getting this mad because someone ordered a caramel macchiato
Incredible
“Modernity, for all its thrilling innovations, brought us not just the bloody French Revolution but also individually tailored goods […] in loud disdain for the importance of cultural unity” so true bestie nothing good or politically unifying ever came out of the French Revolution
I guess I die here
Dude this fucking rules
Onion, you’re very cute but I have to get up to work now. Onion. Onion. Sir.
bleeds with keenest anguish at the undraped spectacle of a valor-ruined man.
👀 Ooooh, this is very relevant to my interests. Also a good reminder to finish Pest, which I remember being very good
when you start planning a new novel the most important thing is how many lesbians you're gonna put in there. triples is safe, triples is best, but more really can't hurt
👀👀👀👀 Thank you so much for this, I can't wait to dig in!
One of the first things that really struck me about doing concentrated reading about the 11th-15th centuries is that (from an American perspective as someone living in the States) people/culture today are 1,000% more prudish than anyone from the 11th-15th centuries
That totally rules
That makes me even more stoked to watch it!
But she also knows quite a lot about the Angevin empire and its lead up into the Plantagenet dynasty, and her interviews about the English line of succession from the 11th through 15th century are very dynamic and entertaining!
I also have been listening to a lot of lectures and interviews with Dr. Eleanor Janega, who might be my favorite currently working medievalist to date. She focuses largely on gender performance in the late Middle Ages and has published a book called The Once and Future Sex that is really interesting
The War of the Roses, by Dan Jones! I started with his book on the Plantagenets, which is really engagingly written, and based on those two titles it seems like the ability to key into the ✨drama✨ of it all is a major strength of his as a historian writing for a lay audience.
What makes A Knight's Tale appeal so much to medievalists? Is it that it leans into anachronisms but nonetheless captures the vibe well? I've never seen it so I'm curious abt why it's beloved by academics who study and teach this period!
*I have hundreds of questions lol but this is the fastest one
Also for any medievalists out there, especially if you're currently teaching medieval history, I've got a question* for you. Every medievalist who I've listened to lecture or in an interview has enthusiastically recommended A Knight's Tale whenever people bring up the Middle Ages in pop culture/art
lmao best of luck to each and every one of those people who are 100% about to die
