Two problems with having 400+ MPs imo - like the royals something must be found for them to do, and some of them now think you can safely pick off the bits of your current voter coalition you dislike.

It's hilarious to me that a professional politician, an actual MP, in 2026, has written an article saying "assemble a disparate coalition of voters? Not a chance!"

(You might say I'm being unkind and that isn't his argument to which I say - you found an argument in there?)

It looks like the generic banqueting suite every Irish hotel stuck on during the boom, which funnily enough were also harbingers of coming economic disaster.

The thing about I Didn't Write the Headline or The Headline Is Not Reflective of the Article Actually is that, as a news consumer, I am simply not arsed buying or subscribing to the publication find out.

This article was amended on 5 March 2026. An earlier version said low-skilled workers would β€œreceive immediate access to welfare and social housing” if Labour did not make them wait longer to apply for settlement. In fact, settlement status only gives people the eligibility to apply for welfare and social housing, it does not give them instant or automatic access to such benefits. This has been clarified.

Guardian has now [after my complaint] corrected Mahmood's deliberate & incendiary false claim settlement gives immigrants "immediate access to welfare and social housing".

Good for Gdn but embarrassing/shameful that Home Secretary deliberately misled the public for political gain like this.

Just throwing it out there: telling people that they have legitimate grievances about immigration will never reduce the sense of grievance. This isn't how anything works and a government that paid even the merest attention to social science research would know their approach helps the far-right.

Maybe it's just me but I think it's bad that the house style for senior correspondents at the state broadcaster is to address the audience like we are slow-witted children. Newsround didn't talk down to their audience the way these people do.

Polanski and Farage have more in common than you might think Despite huge political differences, the Green and Reform leaders have much in common, writes Laura Kuenssberg.

As usual with Laura K/Chris M written output, you will feel less well-informed after reading this.

Saw The Playboy of the Western World at the National Theatre tonight, a significantly hornier production than the one I saw in the Ramor Theatre in Cavan in 1999. Finally understand why those early audiences were scandalised.
