Find myself with a not entirely unexpected pocket of time. Good chance to learn a bit from Dorothy Sayers.

Audiobook No 12 for 2025

A Study in Scarlet by Arthur Conan Doyle

Narrated by Stephen Fry

My second time through the first Holmes novel. Absolutely love this character, regardless of what medium he is in. Fry is excellent as a narrator here.

The Terminal Experiment, written by Robert J. Sawyer, narrated by Paul Hecht

AI and cutting-edge medical tech. The inventor of one is also test subject for the other. Merging inventor and subject begs the question: What is the soul?

I liked it.

I appreciate the "get stuff done" and "build" themes throughout the work. I worked with people living homeless for more than a decade, so i found the section on housing the most interesting and personally applicable.

Audiobook No 10 for 2025

Abundance written and narrated by Ezra Klein and Derek Thompson

About why progressivism fails to solve problems - homelessness, etc - and to suggest a way forward . Progressivism should build, defining success by getting stuff done.

Journey to the Centre of the Earth by Jules Verne

narrated by Tim Curry

Classic scifi that I experienced for the first time. A fun adventure, written as a travel journal.

Curry is, of course, an excellent narrator.

Audiobook No 8 for 2025

Zoo by James Patterson & Michael Ledwidge

narrated by Jay Snyder

A thriller-science-fiction novel. Two questions drive the action - Why are animals suddenly going crazy? What can stop it?

I wanted a fun, smart book. Zoo delivers.

Enjoyed this novel. Came to it anticipating a straight up action-adventure story. So much more was delivered. It is also a thought provoking narrative about humanity and freedom.

Ray Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451: Hopeful Futures in Dystopian Narratives Good Faith ยท Episode

Are books more than simple entertainment? Do they matter? Would it make any difference if we didn't read them?

The Good Faith podcast presents a great discussion about one of my favourite books, Ray Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451.

My third career development book of 2025, but there is a bunch of good stuff for other aspects of life too.

My main takeaway is adding new habits to things I am already doing anyway.

The Meg
written by Steve Alten narrated by Sean Runnette

Entertaining book by Alten. Genuine fear within a modern-day science fiction premise.

Runnette's narration is perfectly suited here, pairing scientific-sounding heft with needed tension.

It is an excellent audiobook. I'm glad he starts it with advice to grab a pen, because I took a lot of notes. The book is a huge help.

1. What do you gravitate to when you feel stress?

2. What matters to you most right now.

The Journey by Eugene Peterson is an insightful book that presents a contrast between grace and other options. I appreciated the clarity Peterson wrote with and how the book showed me how some of my own attitudes run counter to a grace-filled approach to life.

Read Timothy Keller's "Hidden Christmas: The Surprising Truth Behind the Birth of Christ" over the last few days. A short but beneficial book for the holiday season. I found the chapters about Joseph, Simeon, and (of course) Mary the most insightful.
