You can teach at a university on a J1, but you CAN NOT be hired for a tenure track position on one, only just be here for a couple of years. Tenure track can only be H1B or existing green-card.

The H1-B fiasco that is about to unfold is almost certainly a Stephen Miller Special to continue “whiteifying” the country, packaged in a way that Trump will see as a “deal” that gives him further leverage over companies to do what he wants
