Hey fellow scientists, I'm just letting you know that if you're promoting something with some junky AI image, I'm not gonna click. You've got a workshop, a conference, a new paper?

Just not gonna bother. You want a bespoke image? Hire an illustrator.

I went to an Afghani restaurant downtown with an Iftar buffet last night and, boy howdy do they know how to break a fast!!! So good. My only complaint was that the kids cleaned out their desserts before I could get some, but that was a tactical error on my part.

Not intended to critique the technology, just that the headline is misleading because it doesn’t test the thing it says it does!

Self-discharge rate does not prove it is not a supercapacitor. The difference between a batter and a supercapacitor lies in the charge storage mechanism, and both are possible to engineer with low sef-discharge rates.

What an odd choice of image, a old-fashioned manual chromatography column, for a cutting-edge topic! Consider updating the alt-text to better reflect the image

Way too nice out to not take the bike out today! Even made it to the grocery store on the way back.

An orange Home Depot bucket sits atop a large ceramic-top hotplate stirrer, a teensy vortex seen in the surface suggesting that stirring is somehow happening.

Prepping 2x20kg of an aqueous formulation base when you usually outsource to a kilo-lab is NOT fun! My experience prepping buckets of ceramic glazes certainly came in handy.

You CAN stir 5-gallon buckets on a magnetic stirrer if it’s big enough, but I don’t recommend it.

As Bike Cars Overflow, Caltrain Bans Large Bikes and Panniers - Streetsblog San Francisco New rules heavily restrict the types of bikes Caltrain users can bring on board. Years ago advocates warned Caltrain that they weren't allotting enough bike space on the new trains

This need to be called out at perpetuating sexist policies that privilege bikers without child carrying, errand running responsibilities. Caltrain would never consider banning kids from trains, why is it ok to make it impossible for parents who travel bike to use the system?

Really excited about my latest project. I almost never make vases, as my cats chomp any plants they can get at!

The form is a stretched dodecahedron, so I made a custom slab bevel cutter to help the faces cleanly meet at the edges with a 116Β° dihedral.

Adding Up What Urban Highways Really Cost A new report maps the economic toll that downtown freeways exact on 142 US cities β€” and tallies up what that land could be worth if it was developed for other uses.

β€œLooking at a 3-mile radius from the downtowns of 142 US cities, roughly 66,000 acres are consumed by highways β€” land representing an untapped development potential of more than half a trillion dollars…that fallow land equates to about $5.2 billion in foregone property tax revenue every year.”
