Conservation is a long game. Little Imp – our youngest grandcalf – is what winning looks like.

92 wild-born babies now, whose mothers came to us as orphans. They grew up. They went wild. They started families.

Long shot, but does anyone know of any regular art/craft/illustration type evenings in Bristol? Something not too formal, a chance to hang out with people as much as anything. Asking (genuinely) for a friend.

LET'S NOT PLAY FRISBEE WITH THAT POET ANYMORE.

[This is a comic strip, with a poem laid over it. On each panel a new line of the poem is written. The scene is a park, in the summer. A man in a trenchcoat - implicitly Philip Larkin - stands folorn, motionless, looking at people throwing a frisbee. It becomes apparent as the comic progresses that they are trying to play frisbee with him. He stand stock still for the whole comic, watching the frisbee as, panel by panel it soars closer and closer to him].

After contemplating the approaching frisbee for two silent panels, Philip begins his thoughts:

Unloosed, unheralded,
You soar toward me
Across the dying afternoon.

bright disc of childhood,
Long since thrown wide
Of Youth's green imaginings,

Your slow declining arc
Figures a sky-written truth:
We will all succumb, and soon

To earth's hard oblivion.

[The frisbee hits Philip on the head with a resounding DONK. He falls backwards, to the ground.

[Ends]

Gosh, it's almost like the Iranians are real people with agency and the ability to plan? Huh.

My grandma has (she was a Land Girl in Carlisle during the war). Hated sprouts for the rest of her life.

It's not just the billionaires, though, it's the military, whoever is running the various social media accounts, and even journalists. They don't seem to realise that other countries have real people with agency.

There's very few definitively good choices when it comes to disposal of bodies. Cremation isn't polluting at point of use (the smoke is treated before release) but is energy intensive and the energy source may not be green. Burial isn't great due to the amount of land it needs.

see also the whooping and cheering at the deaths, crippling injuries and destruction they've wrought. None of this is real, these people aren't real, nobody has agency apart from the almighty USA USA USA USA.

The Iran war should be a lesson for Keir Starmer's Government. If you take a clear line on an issue where the public agree with you then it's your opponents who end up having to back down, not you

I'd ask Mr Mamdani very nicely if he could move to seat 9 and then I'd spend the flight kicking the back of Andrew Tate's chair.

Too many people see the rest of the world as NPCs in the latest edition of whatever video game, and so they're treating dropping bombs on actual real people like it's a game. Whooping and hollering at enormous destruction and savage violence, at death and crippling injury.

If it's a leather belt, they're not too difficult to add an extra hole to, a shoe repair place should have the right hole punch.

Almost 10,000 authors have come together to publish an empty book protesting the theft of books by tech companies to train AI models.

Titled Don’t Steal This Book, it is empty of text except the names of the authors involved.. 🧵
