The horizon is marked by a bright, yellow-orange strip of light, above which dark cloud formations are situated. With its long legs and neck a great blue heron catches a a long rainbow trout in an opening on the ice at Izaak Walton Nature Area in Longmont, Colorado. The photograph was taken 23 minutes after sunset. It has a purple tint due to the clouds holding on to the last rays of fading sun. The rainbow trout is between 18 to 24 inches long.
