Hope you caught at least part of Marquette-UConn. MU won, 68-62. I told my husband we picked the wrong game to drive 500 miles to Milwaukee. We winced as DePaul beat Marquette 62-51 last Sunday. We had fun hanging out with our j-school friends, though, including some sports guys.

I am old enough to remember when Republicans cared about the environment. That's why we have the Tom Ridge Environmental Center at Presque Isle State Park and why the late state lawmaker Karl Boyes, a Republican, championed the multipurpose trail there, so walkers, cyclists can enjoy nature.

Legendary Marquette basketball coach Al McGuire said to be truly educated, you need to work for 6 months as a bartender and 6 months as a cab driver after graduation. Wise words then and now.

What an insult to the good people of Minnesota, the most diehard hockey fans in the country. Partying with a member of the administration who killed their citizens, disappeared their neighbors and terrorized their children. Shameful. Fuck those guys.

At our library, to register for a card patrons have multiple options to verify that they live in the county. Student IDs count, unlike the GOP's plans for voter registration.

Years ago, a young man from Puerto Rico was appointed to fill a vacancy on Erie City Council. When he ran for election, people told him to "go back where you came from." He lost, as did our community. Erie's most vulnerable people benefitted when he became head of a social service agency.

I was surprised by my own revulsion at hearing The National Anthem performed with full-throated gusto at a college basketball game. I lyrics about bombs bursting in air only made me think of pepper spray and tear gas. I took a knee.

That's why I donate to the AP. At my hometown paper, when it was family-owned, we subscribed to the AP and to the WAPO/LAT wire. GateHouse bought the paper, acquired Gannett and AP coverage was dropped for USA Today & Reuters. Coverage is greatly diminished. I donate to AP to support its journalism.

Exactly. I saw a great Facebook post with photos of the new Erie mayor at the Naturalization Ceremony on Friday, following the practice of her predecessor. Right-wingers congratulated immigrants &refugees for becoming citizens "legally." They refuse to see that the crackdown targets all immigrants.
