Yeah, professional activists might not be a great term, but we can trifurcate protesters as conservatives, moderates, and radicals based on individuals’ level of tolerance for the costs attached to protest behavior, which would help us explain why some protesters are willing to engage in violence.
Nah. In democracies, protester violence will almost surely reduce public support, but it is more likely to lead governments to accommodate the demands of protesters — though how we define protester violence is quite important.
